Yinka Olatunbosun

Nisola Jegede has carved a niche for herself as a scriptwriter and dramaturg, working behind the scenes, not only bringing ideas and stories to life, but also to push the boundaries of storytelling.

Unknown to many, the passion did not start today. From the early days of her career, spanning a decade, Nisola Jegede exhibited an extraordinary talent for creating awe-inspiring narrative, revealing the raw essence of human experience. Her scripts, as has been noted, “are celebrated not just for their compelling plots, but for their depth, authenticity, and social consciousness.”

It is almost impossible to talk about Nisola Jegede without talking about her participation in the Professional Development/Workshop: New Writing North, England, which, she enthused, was quite challenging and stimulating.

The process of joining a New Writing North programme begins with an open call that happens once in a year. Writers are asked to apply with a sample of their work and a short statement about their interests and ambitions. The application is competitive as more than 2000 people apply and less than one percent are selected.

Once applications close, the submissions are reviewed by a panel made up of New Writing North staff, industry partners, and guest judges. From this stage, a shortlist is created, and candidates are invited to further discussions before the final group is selected.

The programme itself combines structured training with practical development. Writers take part in workshops led by experienced professionals who cover everything from craft to industry knowledge. Each participant is paired with a mentor who provides one-to-one guidance, helping them refine their project and build confidence in their writing. Alongside this, the group environment allows writers to share work, exchange feedback, and develop a peer network.

By the end of the programme, writers are expected to have made significant progress on their scripts. The programme often ends with a sharing event or showcase, giving writers the chance to present their work to industry figures or an invited audience.

While with the New Writing North programme, she developed ‘IRINAJO, a captivating and thought-provoking African fantasy drama series. The experience with New Writing North, she recalled, was both challenging and affirming.

“The programme placed me in a room with writers whose voices were completely different from mine, and that diversity forced me to sharpen my own. We spent time breaking down scripts, asking why a part of the script fell flat, and I learned how to interrogate my own choices with more honesty,” she said.

“What stood out most was how the mentors treated African stories with seriousness rather than as a niche. When I shared work rooted in Nigerian tradition, they engaged with it as drama, not just as cultural material. That gave me the confidence to write with more boldness, knowing the stories I carry can hold their own in any setting.”

The workshop, she further stated, also trained her to think about the audience, noting that in England, a reference that feels obvious in Lagos may need a different kind of framing.

“I began to see how I could stay authentic to Nigerian textures while shaping stories that speak clearly across cultures. That balance continues to shape how I write for film and television.”

Significantly, she emerged the Best Student Scriptwriter, Bournemouth University 2023. So, how did she feel when she emerged the winner and how it has impacted your career? You asked.

She noted that winning the Best Student Scriptwriter at Bournemouth University in 2023 gave her a moment of certainty, stressing that she had been writing with doubts about whether her Nigerian-rooted stories could connect in a UK environment.

“When I heard my name, I felt an immediate sense of validation. My voice carried further than I thought it could. The award pushed me to trust my instincts. I had spent long nights rewriting, shaping dialogue, and holding onto cultural identity in my scripts. That recognition showed me those choices had real value. I walked away with courage to write more boldly and to stop second-guessing my approach.

“It also changed how people received my work. After that moment, I noticed more respect for my scripts and more openness to collaboration. For me, the award was not about a trophy. It marked the point where I stopped calling myself a student and began moving with confidence as a professional scriptwriter.”

Jegede’s remarkable talent has earned her numerous awards and critical acclaim. She has been behind several acclaimed TV drama series and films—each project a testament to her signature approach: stories that are rooted in cultural consciousness, yet revolutionary in their scope and impact. Celebrated for her meticulous craftsmanship, her work challenges stereotypes, questions conventions, and invites viewers into worlds that are both familiar and utterly transformative.

Reflecting on the journey so far, she noted that she grew up surrounded by several forms of storytelling, especially films, adding that she was fascinated by the way moving images could hold an audience captive.

“But I also noticed how rarely I saw African stories on screen that reflected the richness I knew from where I lived. I remember watching movies that shaped global culture and thinking, where are our stories? That is, movies that truly reflect us. That question pushed me to write.”

“Dramaturgy and other forms of storytelling came naturally as part of that process,” she added, noting that her inspiration has always been rooted in African traditions.”

She also noted that what drew her to cross-cultural narratives and African traditional stories is the tension and beauty in how stories shift when carried from one context into another.

“African traditions are full of layered myths, philosophies, and humour that I wanted to re-imagine for the screen, as living, breathing narratives. Film allows me to merge those with contemporary storytelling techniques, giving both African.”

On the challenges she faced trying to bridge different cultural perspectives in her work, Jegede said it has to do with how layered Nigeria is.

“We are many tribes like Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Tiv, Efik, and so many others. Each tribe with carry their own rhythm, humour, and worldview. I am always aware of the responsibility

“When I try to bring those into film. I often asks questions like how do I honour a tradition without flattening it into something generic? How do I make sure one tribe’s truth does not get mistaken as the only Nigerian truth? I address it by leaning into a story’s emotional core. For example, a Yoruba proverb might not translate word-for-word for someone who is Igbo or Hausa, but the emotion, whether it’s longing, caution, or pride, is universal. I work to let the audience feel that through the characters’ choices, gestures, or the visual language of the film. That way, even if the detail is specific, the resonance is shared. For me, the goal is to make every tribe breathe uniquely while still reminding us of the threads that connect us. Film gives me the space to do that. It gives us the space to show the intimacy of each culture while also revealing the humanity that ties them together.”

Scholars across the globe have alluded to rising regional conflicts as an impediment towards achieving the Global Sustainable Goals, SDGs, with 2030 deadline.

The scholars who converged on Osun State University campus on a-three-day International Sustainable Development Dialogue, themed, “Sustainable Development in the Age of Crisis: Humanities, Science and More Equitable World”, agreed that without cooperation from all actors, achieving SDGs goal would be impossible.

Speaking while declaring the conference open, the Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University, Osogbo, Professor Clement Adebooye, said the ongoing Israel-Iran war would have damning consequences on global affairs.

According to him, “There is no doubt that the contemporary world is characterized by crises of different magnitude and consequences not only at the national level but also at continental and intercontinental levels.

“In the last one week, for example, the conflict between Israel and Iran that started like a candle light has escalated with far-reaching and severe impacts not just for the immediate region but globally.

“The various consequential dimensions and magnitude of this war are manifest in the conspicuous humanitarian crisis and rising casualties, geopolitical instability and regional spill-over, economic disruptions, nuclear proliferation concerns and cyber warfare.

“Undoubtedly, the long-term consequences of this avoidable war will depend heavily on the duration and intensity of the hostilities, as well as the involvement of other international actors”.

However, in his remarks Professor Moises Silva from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil said the use of nuclear weapons during war has a great negative impact on the SDG conservation agenda, including disruption of nature.

He opined that “Without nature we cannot live, so this war and others that are happening are really showing us the true face of people that are very greedy and they prefer war to life because every activity of war greatly on our environment.”

Equally, Dr. Feng Mao from the University of Warwick, UK, disclosed that SDGs cannot be achieved alone but require collaborative efforts from all countries, saying “We have five more years to the deadline of the SDG and all stakeholders must work together to ensure their attainment.”

Professor Imre Szeman stressed the need for state actors globally to reach compromise on equitable distribution of energy resources with a view to ensuring balance between the South and the North.

Earlier in his message the Director, Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute, Professor John Agbonifo, said the essence of the conference is to bring together scholars from across the world to think out of the box towards achieving global development goals.

“When the SDGs was designed nobody anticipated these crises; now that we have crisis at hand and it is becoming an impediment to achievement of the sustainable goals, we must find a way to achieve it before deadline in five years’ time”, he said.

How Andrew Tech Gadgets is Redefining Electronics Retail in Nigeria’s Tech Capital /2025/06/06/how-andrew-tech-gadgets-is-redefining-electronics-retail-in-nigerias-tech-capital/ /2025/06/06/how-andrew-tech-gadgets-is-redefining-electronics-retail-in-nigerias-tech-capital/#respond Thu, 05 Jun 2025 23:02:00 +0000 /?p=1090212

Andrew Tech Gadgets, a Lagos-based retail electronics store, is steadily gaining recognition for its emphasis on product authenticity, consistent service, and transparent business practices in one of Nigeria’s most competitive tech markets.

Today, the tech store earning broader attention for its reliability and customer-centered operations in a market where trust remains a major concern. In a space where counterfeit devices and confusing prices are still common, the store’s consistent approach is setting it apart and slowly reshaping consumer expectations in the electronics space. It is not just selling gadgets, but also restoring confidence in a market where many customers have grown wary. For an industry often marked by inconsistency, this kind of stability is increasingly rare and highly valued.

The business was founded by Sunday Andrew, who started the venture to address the frustrations many buyers experienced while shopping in the market. “Many people were dealing with uncertainty when buying tech products, from unclear pricing to fake devices,” he said. “I felt there was room for a store prioritizing clarity and honesty.”

Since its launch, the store has developed a loyal customer base primarily through word-of-mouth referrals.

Shoppers frequently cite the ease of getting support and the assurance of product credibility as key factors behind their repeat visits. “We’re not the biggest, but people who shop here usually come back and bring others,” says Andrew. “That speaks more than any advert ever could.”

The store has also embraced digital communication by maintaining an active Instagram presence, where it shares updates on product availability and service information.

According to Andrew, maintaining clarity on their only official platform has become important for protecting customers from impersonation. “We are not on Facebook. We say this often to avoid fraud cases,” he explained.

To meet the needs of customers outside Lagos, Andrew Tech Gadgets now offers nationwide delivery with verified order tracking and support, helping bridge the trust gap in remote electronics shopping. This expansion has been guided by feedback from customers looking for safer, more reliable alternatives to unverified online sellers. It also reflects the store’s growing ambition to serve beyond walk-in traffic and provide convenience without compromising quality.

The business continues to distinguish itself through consistent service standards and a straightforward, honest approach to retail. “A lot of customers just want peace of mind,” Andrew said. “Our goal is to provide that before, during, and after the sale.”

As Nigeria’s tech retail landscape continues to evolve, stores like Andrew Tech Gadgets represent a growing shift toward credibility-driven operations. While the business still runs from a single physical location, its focus on trust, process integrity, and service excellence places it among a new generation of retailers reshaping expectations in the informal electronics market.

Save Contributory Pensioners from Poverty, APC Chieftain Appeals to Tinubu /2025/04/02/save-contributory-pensioners-from-poverty-apc-chieftain-appeals-to-tinubu/ /2025/04/02/save-contributory-pensioners-from-poverty-apc-chieftain-appeals-to-tinubu/#comments Wed, 02 Apr 2025 04:09:21 +0000 /?p=1070661

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to look into the plights of contributory pensioners in the country.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo yesterday.

The APC Chieftain noted that delayed or non-payment of pensions, inadequate funding, and corruption within the pension scheme have led to hardship and financial stress for pensioners.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker said since 2004, when the federal government enacted the Pensions Reform Act (PRA 2004), which introduced the contributory pension scheme, pensioners had not been treated fairly by, especially many previous administrations in the country.

Lamenting that many pensioners are still unable to access their gratuity, Oyintiloye also said many senior citizens are often paid between 25 and 50 percent of the lump sum after retirement.

He expressed concerns that many civil servants who had served the government in their prime would end up being subjected to untold hardship and poverty after retirement due to delay or non-payment of retirement benefits by government.

Oyintiloye, who commended Tinubu

for approving N758 billion bond in February to clear 16 years pension liabilities, said more still needed to be done to save pensioners from poverty ravaging them after retirement, leading to sickness and untimely death.

He also urged the President to work with the National Assembly in reviewing the 2004 Pensions Reform Act to enable pensioners to withdraw all their retirement savings immediately after exiting service and also have access to free health care once they reach 65 years.

Oyintiloye said doing that would enable these retirees to take care of their needs, venture into any business of their wish, rather than live on monthly pension that may be insufficient.

He said the kind of hardship many ex-workers experience after retirement due to poor or delayed payment of retirement benefits may impact negatively on the morale of those still in service, making them to indulge in graft.

“I want to appeal with the president to look into the plights of pensioners under the contributory pension scheme. The 2004 pension act should be reviewed to enable pensioners to live a decent life after retirement.

“Due to poor or delay in payment of retirement benefits, many retirees cannot afford a decent meal, good health care, good housing, among others after exiting service. These are the people that served the country in their prime.

“After retirement due to advanced age, many of these pensioners are already suffering ailments, and yet they can’t avoid medication because they don’t have enough money. Even as retirees, many of these senior citizens still have many people depending on them.

“That is why I am pleading with President Bola Tinubu to intervene. He has shown that he is a leader with the capacity to solve problems,” he said.

•Meets Bisi Akande, briefs him on recent devts

•APC says governor’s political pilgrimage can’t bail him out, PDP insists it’s sign of statesmanship

Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, during consultation with stakeholders on the recent local government leadership crisis in the state, warned against resort to self-help.

Adeleke had been scheduled to meet with key leaders at a special briefing session with the state Council of Traditional Rulers on Thursday.

He visited elder statesman and former governor of the state, Chief Bisi Akande, at his Ibadan residence to kick-start the consultation.

But Osun State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) berated Adeleke for visiting Akande, saying such a move would not bail him out of the mess he has put himself.

Responding, the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the consultation, including the visit to Akande, as a sign of statesmanship and a demonstration of leadership by Adeleke.

Adeleke, accompanied by top state officials, discussed pressing state and national issues with Akande

On the local government issue, the governor recounted the position of the state government over recent legal controversies and restated his commitment to the rule of law in the resolution of the issues.

He said there was need for all stakeholders to avoid resorting to self-help to avoid further loss of lives and property, repeating his earlier call on parties to return to court to ventilate their viewpoints.

The governor appreciated the consensus building role of Akande in stabilisation of the national leadership, declaring that Osun State is proud of the elder statesman.

He conveyed the support of the Osun State government for the administration of President Bola Tinubu, informing the elder statesman that the state government enjoys warm partnership with the federal government across all sectors.

Adeleke stated, during the discussion with Akande, “Our father, we are here to pay homage to you as my predecessor and as an elder statesman. I am also going round to brief our leaders on recent developments in our dear state.

“Your relationship with the Adeleke family dated back to my late dad. I choose to start the consultation with this visit.”

Responding, Akande commended the governor for the visit, describing the development as a welcome one, despite differences in political affiliations.

He said he had listened to the presentations from the delegations and urged all parties to uphold peace and the rule of law for the collective benefit of the state.

The former governor said bloodshed in the name of politics was unacceptable, and called on all parties to submit to the rule of law and avoid resort to self-help.

Adeleke and Akande later held a two-hour meeting behind closed-doors.

APC: Your Political Pilgrimage to Pa Akande Cannot Bail You Out of Your Mess

Osun State chapter of APC criticised Adeleke for visiting Akande, saying the decision will not bail him out of the crisis.

APC stated, “It was strange that Governor Adeleke and his cohorts could find a way to Pa Akande’s residence after the Peoples Democratic Party’s thugs, acting on the governor’s body language, had killed one of the reinstated local government council chairmen of Chief Akande’s party, Hon. Remi Abass, in Ikire and other members of the opposition party in the other parts of the state few days ago.”

In a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, APC stated, “We want to impress it on Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers that Pa Akande is a democrat and no amount of under-the-table arrangement would make the former governor of the state to work against the interest of his party.

“Does Governor Adeleke want Pa Akande to be praising him for being instrumental to the killing of the chieftain and members of his party?

“We want to believe that there are knowledgeable political lieutenants of Governor Adeleke who should guide him aright that the proper place for him to go, if at all he has any case for redress after the Akure verdict of 10th of February, 2025, is the Supreme Court.

“It does not add up that a governor whose directive resulted into the killings of our members and others across the state could think he could fool the people again through the back door.

“The walkabout of Governor Adeleke and his acolytes to Pa Akande pointed to the fact that they have lost the game irredeemably. If we may ask, why is Governor Adeleke afraid of approaching the Supreme Court for redress if, indeed, he is convinced that he has a genuine case?”

PDP: Visit to Akande Sign of Statesmanship

Osun State chapter of PDP stated that the commencement of consultations by Adeleke, including a visit to Chief Bisi Akande, was a sign of statesmanship and a demonstration of leadership acumen.

PDP stated, “We note with disdain the anger of the Osun APC over Governor Adeleke’s visit to Chief Akande. We are not surprised by the vituperations of the vampire-driven elements within the Osun APC, who are bitter that their plot to destabilise Osun State has failed.

“Governor Adeleke lost six of his party members to the cold hands of death, killed by bullets from APC thugs. Yet, as a leader with a deep sense of responsibility, he has launched consultations with state elders across party lines to rebuild peace and restore the rule of law.

“Omo onilu ki fe kotu’, a Yoruba proverb, aptly describes Governor Adeleke’s actions. Only a bastard would rejoice in the recent killings perpetrated by elements within the APC.

“As our governor and our party are made up of responsible men and women of this great state, we will not support setting it ablaze to satisfy the grievances of sore losers who were defeated in a free and fair election.

“As such, Mr. Governor is reaching out to all shades of opinion. His agenda, as it was before the crisis, remains to engage men and women of goodwill in salvaging the state from further conflict. Genuine democrats abide by the rule of law, and that is precisely what Governor Adeleke is advocating.”

PDP added, “The Governor and his party are embracing peace not out of weakness but as a demonstration of wisdom and political strength, reinforced by the massive goodwill we enjoy from the people. The people stand firmly with us, and we must protect them from political bandits and marauders who fear free and fair elections.”

•Says gov’s directive to chairmen to avoid secretariats deceitful

•Adeleke sustaining peace despite machinations of anarchists, says spokesperson

Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo

Osun State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to stop referring to the Osun chapter of APC as the aggressor in the lingering political impasse in the state, which has consumed about 10 persons from the attacks by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters across the state.

Makinde was in Osun State last Sunday to witness the swearing-in of the council chairmen by his Osun State counterpart.

A statement by Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said, “If we may ask, where was Governor Makinde when his political soulmate in the hitherto state of the virtuous used the sanctity of the Osun State Government House to incite the members of his party to go all out and attack our members and chieftains?

“Where was Governor Makinde when the political hoodlums of his party killed through gun shots the newly reinstated chairman of our party in Ikire, Hon Remi Abass, Irewole Local Government Council Area, apparently emboldened by the earlier incitement by Governor Adeleke?

“Where was Governor Makinde when the thugs loyal to the PDP killed one person in Irojo, Ilesa, Osun State, during the illegal shambolic local government council election purportedly held by his brother on Saturday?

“Governor Makinde should tell the right-thinking Nigerians why he lost his voice when daredevil thugs traceable to the violent thugs of his party almost killed a chieftain of our party, Engr Remi Omowaye, who is a serving Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority and Mr Tobi Famurewa in Ilesa few days ago?

“We want to make it clear to Governor Makinde that he is not in a better position to teach the leadership of the APC how to prosecute the ongoing efforts of our duly elected chairmen and councillors how to reap the benefit of the Court of Appeal judgement, Akure Division, given on the 10th of February, 2025.”

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Osun State governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said his principal had proven to be a crisis manager with an eye on public peace and prosperity, hence, the sustenance of peace across the state despite the evil plot of anarchists within the opposition.

Rasheed described as “libellous and defamatory” allegation of importing thugs levelled against top functionaries of the administration by children of anarchy as “a baseless concoction without any iota of truth”.

Rasheed said, “From the beginning of the face off, the state governor, being a security expert and a criminologist, had deployed his skills of conflict resolution to sustain peace even with the worst of provocations.

“The mapping of the entire state revealed that the opposition APC was mainly interested in burning the state down and destroying the elected political structures. Mr Governor smartly denied the APC the fuel for its arsonist plan.”

The statement hinted that various groups have been called for meeting, and the authorities  have held series of meetings by the Commissioner of Police to ensure that this does not happen.

According to the commissioner, “We expressed deepest sympathy with those affected that either lost their lives and property. The CP assure thorough investigation and promise that perpetrators face full wrath of law. “

He urged Citizens  to remain calm and patience as police are working to restore peace, saying those formenting this trouble should desist from this act. This state is known for peace.

“We won’t allow anyone to disrupt the peace of our state.  The IG has deployed mobile policemen from outside the state to Osun, they have arrived yesterday night,” he said.

The CP said the command will leave no stone unturned to achieve peace, adding  “let us give peace a chance.”

Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday expressed its condolences to the immediate and political families of Hon. Remi Abass, the Chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state, who was killed by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP’s political hoodlums in the ancient town of Ikire on Monday.

The state chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued and made available to Ƶ by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, yesterday, stated that the untimely and sudden killing of the peace-loving and consummate politician was inhuman, wicked and callous.

Lawal, who directed the other chairmen and their councillors to stay off their respective council secretariat as a sign of respect for their fallen colleagues until further notice, assured them that the late Abass would not be killed in vain.

He commended all the council chairmen for acting in accordance with the Court of Appeal judgement that secured victory for them penultimate Monday.

The state APC chairman enjoined the police to extend their dragnet with a view to arresting, investigating and prosecution of the killers of the serving local government council chairmen and their sponsors who could not have come from the moon.

He sympathised with the immediate family members, political associates and all the progressive-loving people of Ikire over the needless gruesome murder of Abass.

Lawal promised that the leadership of the party would do all necessary things to ensure that the chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area did not die in vain.

He reminded the colleagues of the deceased and other members of the party that the only thing to sustain the legacy that claimed the life of Abass is to remain resolute in their commitment towards the  realization of the collective aspiration of the party now and in the nearest future.

He prayed that Almighty Allah favour the soul of our amiable local government chairman in Irewole Local Government Council Area and forgive him his excesses.

•Reaffirms commitment to make Osun nation’s food basket

Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has given a nod to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government in its ongoing commitment to boost the agricultural sector of the country.

Governor Adeleke who applauded the reforms currently being embarked on by the FG in the sector with a Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee set up recently, described it as one initiative well intended that couldn’t have come at a better time than now.

A press statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, revealed Governor Adeleke pledged the readiness of his administration to key into the initiative while granting audience to Professor Attahiru Jega-led Presidential Livestock Reforms Initiative Committee in his office.

According to Alimi, the advocacy visit which took place at the Exco Chambers, Governor’s Office, State Secretariat, afforded the Osun helmsman the opportunity to reel out many of the reforms being currently put in place in Osun State with a view to making it one of the food baskets of Nigeria in terms of food security and abundance.

Part of the press statement by Alimi in respect of Governor Adeleke’s commitment to the FG’s initiative on livestock read: “My administration is irrevocably committed to any initiative by the FG that will put more foods on the tables of the people of Nigeria.

“While I welcome your team to my dear Osun, the State of the Living Spring, it will interest you to hear that my administration is not leaving any stone unturned to buy this idea.

“One of the efforts of my administration in this regard, among others, was the recent procurement of thirty-one tractors given to the farmers in the state, aimed at boosting food sufficiency.

“In addition to this, seedlings and other incentives are being given to farmers at will by my administration using a well-structured implementation drive being organized ceaselessly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in my state.

“My dear Professor Jega and your team, at the risk of sounding immodest, I want to tell you with all sense of responsibility, that my State, Osun is enormously endowed and blessed with arable lands and forests, which if fully harnessed in the best way, will ensure food security and create more job opportunities, not only for my people here in Osun but Nigeria as a whole.

“To this end, I want to earnestly declare my interest in this FG’s initiative to boost food production and very soon, I will put in place a strong committee of egg heads in the field of Agriculture, to design a good template for Osun on the best way to reform the livestock sector.”

Earlier, the Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Initiative Reforms Committee and former Chairman, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said his team was in Osun State to sell the idea of the committee and its overall objectives, which, if bought into, will go a long way in making Osun to benefit maximally.

Prof. Jega particularly appealed to Governor Adeleke to set up a Ministry of Livestock in Osun State or any agency in that regard that will see to the realisation of the dream of the FG to make livestock available in large quantity throughout Nigeria.

To give it the needed backing, the Professor Attahiru Jega’s Presidential Livestock Initiative Reforms Committee urged Governor Adeleke to back it up with an enabling legislation through the State House of Assembly.

He also called on Governor Adeleke to engage the services of critical stakeholders in livestock production in addition to creating good awareness on the immense importance of reforming the sector for the good and happiness of all Nigerians.

The Ataoja of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, at the weekend bestowed a Chieftaincy title – “Bobagunwa of Osogboland” – on the Secretary to the State Government of Osun State, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, in recognition of his contribution to the development of the town.

The event held at the Palace of Ataoja of Osogbo was witnessed by people from all walks of life who came to felicitate with the new Bobagunwa.

Hon. Teslim Igbalaye became the new Bobagunwa of Osogboland following the death of his late father who was the occupant of the position until his death some years back.

Speaking shortly after his installation, Igbalaye appreciated the traditional monarch for counting him worthy, promising to continue to contribute to the development of his town.

Igbalaye who expressed happiness over his new chieftaincy title said, it was a thing of joy that the same title was last held by his late father.

He, however, assured the Oba Olanipekun and the Ataoja in council of his maximum cooperation in their bid to take the ancient town of Osogbo to a greater height.

Speaking, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State described the new Bobagunwa of Osogbo, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye as a patriotic son of Osogbo.

Adeleke who commended the Ataoja for recognizing the contribution of SSG said, he has been passionate about the development of the town.

He reiterated commitment of the present administration to development of the state, especially the state capital ‘Osogbo’.

According to Adeleke, “during our election campaign, we promised to transform Osogbo to London, and we’re working tirelessly to achieve this goal not just in Osogbo, but across all local governments in the state.”

He, however, commended Ataoja of Osogbo for recognizing the SSG under his leadership with the chieftaincy title.

He said: “What happened here today is a replica of what had happened in Ede recently when I was installed as the Asiwaju of Edeland. Hon. Teslim Igbalaye takes on the role of his father, Chief Rasheed Adejare Igbalaye, who served as Bobagunwa of Osogbo and did exceptionally well during his lifetime.

“We didn’t just choose Hon. Teslim Igbalaye as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), but due to his outstanding performance.

“The Ataoja of Osogbo also conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Bobagunwa of Osogbo in recognition of his achievements.

Osun state government yesterday posited that the current attempt by former Aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokiri to compare Osun State Revenue with proceeds from sales of Wizkid’s Morayo Album has exposed him as a Low thinker.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Special Assistant to  Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Revenue Matters, Kosile Anike Stella in a statement issued on Monday and made available to Ƶ she said “My attention was drawn to an online post from Mr Reno Omokri saying, “Please Fact-Check me: In two weeks, Wizkid’s Morayo album has generated more revenue than the total Internally Generated Revenue raised by Osun State in 2023.”

“Reno Omokri is comparing Apples with Oranges. Wizkid’s audience is all over the world and not Osun State residents only, and it’s even a person that is not able to think deep that will make such comparison. Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi earns $213 million and $130 million respectively yearly, that’s about N583 billion. So Mr Reno Omokri will say Christiano Ronaldo and Messi should come to Nigeria to teach about 25 States who their yearly Independent Revenue is not up to N581 billion how to generate IGR.

“Similarly Jon Rahm despite not winning any tournament is the highest paid golfer 2024 (Forbes) with $218 million earnings, this is greater than Self employed taxes of all states in Nigeria including Lagos from 2019 till date. It is extremely funny Reno is not able to make logical arguments again since he has been out of political office rather chose to settle for illogical half statements in a bid to ride on Wizkid’s recently released album to attempt to gain relevance.

“For the Record since inception of His Excellency’s Gov Adeleke’s tenure, the revenue of the State has seen a year on year increase from 9.7% increase in 2022 to 13.5 and 46% increase in 2023 and 2024 respectively and a 82% increase since 2021.  It may be difficult for Mr Reno Omokri to know how 46 and 82% per cent was arrived at, but critical thinkers and every other Nigerian knows data can be extrapolated,” he stated.

* Party chief boasts APC will win more states

*Ondo poll results reflects people’s will, says int’l police chaplain

Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo and Fidelis David in Akure

An aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Umar Ganduje, suffered from verbal diarrhoea and swollen ego.
Rasheed said Ganduje had an agenda to destabilise the South-west and create a crisis for President Bola Tinubu at the home front.
A chieftain of APC in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said the party’s victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State was an indication that more states governed by the opposition parties, would be won by  APC in no distant time.
At the same time, a foreign observer group, International Police Chaplain Sustainable Development and Law Enforcement Inc., USA, declared that the final result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) truly reflected the records of the ballot boxes at the polling units.
Reacting to an alleged vow by Ganduje to hijack Osun in 2026, Rasheed said the APC national chairman was unhappy with the peace and united front behind Mr. President from the South-west and had now launched vicious attacks to ignite regional political battles to weaken the president ahead of 2027.
He said the anti-democratic utterances of the APC leader contrasted sharply with the democratic credentials of Tinubu.
Rasheed stated that Ganduje spoke like an amateur dictator without respect for history.
He said, “As a well-read politician, one would have expected Dr. Ganduje to know that electoral contests depend mostly on local indexes and factors and that what obtains in Edo and Ondo are surely different from political facts on ground in Osun State.
“Local permutations, grievances, and interests dictate how people vote rather than superimposed force.”
Rasheed cited the failure of the APC leader to win Kano State governorship race for his party.
But Oyintiloye, a member of the APC national campaign stakeholders engagement committee for the election, said with the overwhelming support and votes given to the party and its candidate in Ondo State, Lucky Ayedatiwa, states being controlled by the opposition should be prepared for massive defeat during their elections.
Oyintiloye emphasised that the massive 366,781 votes secured by the APC candidate, as against 117,845 by the PDP candidate, was a good indication pointing towards APC’s victory in the next round of off-cycle elections in other states.
Presenting the assessment analysis for the off-cycle election in Akure, the mission spokesperson and Director of Administration and Organisations at the African Regional Command, Mr. Oscar David, urged candidates and political actors to engage legal channels in case of contestation and disagreement in results, to sustain social peace and avoid breakdown of law and order.
He stated that the election was peaceful, transparent, credible and successful, with minimal incidences and complaints by party agents at polling units and collation centre.
The group stated, “The IPCSL mission commends the people of Ondo State in their conducts and cooperation with our team members across the LGAs (local government areas), political parties and all stakeholders for enabling environment towards successful election, with show of patriotism and democratic culture, while urging all to continue to work to preserve national peace and stability in order to consolidate democracy and the rule of law, especially in a challenging socio-political context in the country.
“The mission asserts, without fear of any contradictions, that the final result declared by INEC truly reflect the records of the ballot boxes at polling units. IPCSL welcomes the good collaboration between the various international missions and domestic observers. Likewise, we salute the quality of the exchanges and shared experiences in the mission to Ondo State.”

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, received a high-powered military delegation in preparation for the burial of late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, describing the planned state burial for the deceased as right and fitting.

Receiving General Kamar Ishola Yusuf, who led other seven serving Generals to his office, Adeleke described the late Army Chief as a bright star of Osun and Nigeria that dimmed too early, noting that his service to the fatherland would never be forgotten.

The governor commended the decision of President Bola Tinubu to grant the late army chief a state burial and also applauded the declaration by the army delegation that all the four community projects started by the deceased would be completed.

“I thank Mr. President for approving state burial for our late brother. We also appreciate the message from the army representative that ongoing community projects initiated by General Lagbaja at Ilobu, Ifon and Erin Osun would be completed. We will follow up on this”, the Governor pledged.

At the palace of Onilobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, Adeleke pleaded with community leaders to ensure sustenance of peace as a mark of honour for the transition of Lt. General Lagbaja.

“Anytime we speak, the late General always calls for peace among his people. His message even at death is that the people of Ilobu and Ifon should live in peace and unity.

“Let us honour the memory of our late brother and maintain peace. We cannot afford any bloodshed again. It is time to see each other as one and push for common development of our local government and state,” the governor told the king and community leaders.

The team leader, General Yusuf, had earlier told the state governor that  he brought condolence letter from the military leadership to him and also to inform the state leadership of the burial plan for the late General.

He described the late Lagbaja as a leader, who led from the front and who made huge impacts within his short time as Army Chief.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Prof. Bamire disclosed that the university and others in the country might not be able to acquire such sophisticated facilities without the gesture of an alumnus like Eniolorunda due to the paucity of funds.

“We are really very grateful for this laboratory considering that we are almost phasing out some of these things as a result of paucity of funds. This has to do with the yearnings which will also improve the livelihoods of our people, especially the students. So when we have an organisation that has come in to meet our needs, we can only say thank you. This laboratory will help improve and enhance a lot of things within the university for students and staff and also drive collaboration between the academia and industry,” he said.

Eniolorunda said, “This newly revamped laboratory represents more than just an upgrade. It stands as part of a personal commitment to foster a generation of engineers and innovators who are not only skilled but also inspired to think critically and creatively about real-world problems. A catalyst for innovation for the next generation of engineers and technologists who will drive Nigeria’s economic growth and advancement. “By investing in STEM education and providing access to platforms like this laboratory, we’re laying the critical rails for the emergence of leaders, innovators, and changemakers that Nigeria needs. The upgrade includes renovation of the existing laboratory space with cutting-edge facilities that include the provision of high-performance desktop computers and laptops, an electronic board for interactive learning, laboratory furniture, supply and installation of sustainable power solutions and advanced cooling systems.

“These state-of-the-art multimillion-naira resources will provide students with hands-on experience in the latest CAD/CAM technologies, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of mechanical engineering.”

Herbert Wigwe’s Father Denies Fighting over Son’s Assets /2024/10/16/herbert-wigwes-father-denies-fighting-over-sons-assets/ /2024/10/16/herbert-wigwes-father-denies-fighting-over-sons-assets/#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 04:14:54 +0000 /?p=1021969

The family of the late Group Managing Director of Access Bank plc., Dr. Herbert Wigwe, yesterday, denied a statement credited to the family that the deceased father, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, was fighting over son’s assets.

A statement by Emeka Wigwe on behalf of the family noted that, “I wish to address a recent article titled: ‘Family Dispute Erupts over Estate of Late Banking Executive Herbert Wigwe’ published on October 13, 2024 (not Ƶ).

“This article has unfortunately spread widely across social and national media. While we recognise the role of the press in sharing news, it is vital that such reports are based on truth and accuracy.

“To clarify, at no point has Pastor Shyngle Wigwe requested 20% of the estate of the late Herbert Wigwe. Neither  has there been any such request by other family members. The article’s claim that this demand contradicts Herbert’s will is entirely false and misleading.

“The facts regarding the estate are already publicly available in the Probate Registry, where an affidavit clearly outlines the correct details. A simple search by your reporters would have revealed this truth.

“During this painful time of grief, our family remains united, focusing on healing and growing stronger together. We have no intention of engaging in a public defence because there are no sides to take. The only truth is that we are navigating this immense loss and will continue to do so with dignity.

“Herbert Wigwe’s legacy as a visionary banker and entrepreneur is what should be remembered.”

“He transformed Access Bank into a national leader and devoted himself to empowering others through initiatives like The HOW Foundation, which focused on education and healthcare. These are the values that define his life and should be the focus, rather than unfounded speculation,” he stated.

Emeka Wigwe, however, urged people to desist from publications that lack accuracies and to exercise greater diligence in fact-checking future stories.
