Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has been commended for his bold steps to rid the state of the menace of insecurity through the Agunechamba Security Agency.

A community leader in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Oluogu Chinedu, gave the commendation Wednesday during a chat with newsmen.

Chinedu noted the activities of gunmen terrorising several communities in the state have been largely curtailed since the establishment of the security agency.

According to him, “Governor Soludo deserves commendation for his commitment to rid the state of insecurity. The people of Anambra can now sleep with their two eyes closed since the establishment of Agunechamba. We are very grateful to him.”

In the same vein, he commended the governor for his efforts and commitment to developing road and other infrastructure in the state since assuming office.

Chinedu specifically hailed Soludo, who commemorated his third year in office few days ago, for the dualization of Amawbia to Ekwulobia road as well as the dualization of Nnewi to Agulu road.

The dualization of the two roads, according to Chinedu, is impacting positively on the socio-economic development of the area as it has brought great relief to the people.

According to him “I wish to commend the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for the giant strides he’s making in infrastructural development across the state.

“I want to specifically acknowledge him for the dualization of Amawbia to Ekwulobia road as well as the Nnewi to Agulu road. The dualization of these roads have significant economic impact on the lives of the people of the area in particular and the state in general”, he noted.

Besides, Chief Chinedu also commended Governor Soludo for the construction of a new market at Agulu, christened ‘Solution Arena’s where fruits, vegetables and other food items are being sold at cheaper prices.

He however appealed to the governor to build a new road or rehabilitate the existing Agulu road which has not been motorable for several years due to the effects of erosion and lack of maintenance.

He however enjoined the governor to pay special attention to youth empowerment initiatives which according to him would go a long way to take away the youth away from criminality thereby sustaining the successes recorded by the governor in the area of security.

Africa Nature Investors (ANI) Foundation, operators of Gashaka Gumti National Park, has provided several economic empowerment initiatives for women in Gashaka including a thriving rice mill.

The economic empowerment initiatives, according to the foundation, was part of its strategic plan to boost the standard of living of the communities hosting the park through gainful employment opportunities thereby helping the foundation’s conservation efforts.

Some of the empowerment initiatives includes a Savings and Loans Scheme through which interest free loans have been provided for over 2000 women and young men across over 40 villages and communities.

Similarly, the foundation has trained bee farmers to acquire modern bee keeping methods as well as provide tool kits and hives which has gone a long way to change the economic fortunes of the beneficiaries.

The latest of the economic empowerment initiatives is the provision of a rice milling machine to the Unity Women Group at Goje in Gashaka Local Government Area which has changed the narratives for the women in particular and the entire community as a whole.

Fielding questions from newsmen, leader of the Unity Group, Juliana Maigida disclosed that their living standards have changed since the milling machine was procured for them.

According to her, “Since we started this group, ANI has always been around to guide and assist us in all we do. Moreso, since they bought this rice milling machine for us, our situation has improved greatly. Our living standards have changed.

“Before now, having three square meals in our houses was always difficult but that is no longer the case since ANI gave us this rice milling machine.

“We were able to save over N600,000 in the first six months. I must confess that our lives and those of our children and husbands and our community at large, have drastically improved”

Also speaking about the far-reaching impact of the plant, the operator of the milling machine, Bello Ali said the operation has provided a source of income not just for members of the Unity Group but also for those who work at the site.

“Since I started operating this machine it has been one success story or the other because I have never encountered any problem with the machine. I work with it all through the week, but Mondays and Tuesdays are usually the busiest days of the week for us here.

“Due to the volume of work, I engaged four assistants and each of them earn between N1,500 and N2,500 daily besides their feeding allowances. Frankly speaking, I must confess to you that my co-workers and I are comfortable and we really appreciate ANI for this great gesture.”

The Community Relations Manager of ANI Foundation, David Peter who spoke on the enterprise said the project is one of the ways through which the foundation empowers the women and provides employment for the wider community.

He said: “Once the Unity Savings and Loans Group was established by the women, ANI donated the rice milling machine to them, so they can earn income for their families and provide employment to others in their community.

“ANI bought the rice milling machine in October 2023 and also gave the Unity Group an interest free loan.  The women found the site for the machine and built the structure to house it.  They are fully in charge of operating the rice mill and process the rice produced by farmers in the village.

“With the money from the rice mill, they have repaid the loan and continue to support their families.  They also add value to the rice produced by local farmers increasing their incomes too, so the whole community benefits.”

Illegal Mining, Logging Activities Have Destroyed Taraba’s Ecosystem, Says Faransa /2024/11/07/illegal-mining-logging-activities-have-destroyed-tarabas-ecosystem-says-faransa/ /2024/11/07/illegal-mining-logging-activities-have-destroyed-tarabas-ecosystem-says-faransa/#comments Thu, 07 Nov 2024 06:34:55 +0000 /?p=1028850

The Chairman, the Taraba State Committee on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation, Brig.Gen. Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd) has raised alarm that mining and logging activities has had devastating effects on the ecosystem of the state.
Addressing a press conference in Jalingo Wednesday, Faransa lamented that illegal miners have caused serious environmental damage which must be urgently addressed before the country have another Ogoni on its hand.
He disclosed that his committee has gone round all the mining sites and communities in the state and have witnessed the extent of havoc caused to the environment by mining activities first hand.
He however maintained that the state government remains committed to environmental safety while supporting legitimate mining activities.
“Taraba State Government was not opposed to mining or legitimate investments in the sector, but was concerned about the damage to the environment and the need for operators to comply comprehensively with all extant laws guiding their operation.
“We cannot allow what happened in Ogoni Land to be repeated here. In nearby Plateau State, you are already aware of the damages mining activities have caused with mining sites rendering large areas unsuitable for farming.
“Under normal circumstances, miners are supposed to cover up at least 80 percent of the excavated areas, and provide schools, hospitals, water and other amenities for the host communities, but the situation in Taraba is different.
“If you see the damages caused to the environment by these illegal miners you will be shocked. We have arrested some people including foreigners from Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and some Chinese nationals. Since our mandate is to make arrest, we have since handed them over to the task force tribunal for persecution,” he said.
Faransa stressed that the committee started its work by embarking on sensitization and advocacy visits to the mining communities to educate them on the harmful effects of illegal mining but regretted that the mining cartel disregarded the committees’ efforts.
“The cartel’s operations have reportedly introduced various social issues, including banditry, kidnapping and drug abuse among children working at the sites. Beyond illegal mining, the cartel, using merchants have started cutting down economic trees for charcoal production, mainly for export to other states.

“Instead of utilising dead wood for local consumption, the merchants are cutting fresh trees, causing extensive ecological harm.

“This practice disrupts the ecosystem and accelerates deforestation, hence our urgent intervention to stop the trend. We are all responsible for protecting our land, and we must act now to ensure it remains viable for agriculture, biodiversity, and future generations,” he stated.

Collapse of Bridges across North-east  Linked to Climate Change /2024/09/06/collapse-of-bridges-across-north-east-linked-to-climate-change/ /2024/09/06/collapse-of-bridges-across-north-east-linked-to-climate-change/#respond Fri, 06 Sep 2024 09:31:00 +0000 /?p=1009989

The Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Mohammad Alkali, has ascribed the perennial collapse of bridges across the North-east states to effects of climate change.

Addressing journalists during an assessment tour of the collapsed Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, Alkali stated that the Northeast and its components are the most affected by climate change.

Besides the Namnai Bridge, the 45-year-old Mayo-Kam Bridge, which is 88.5 kilometres on the outskirts of Jalingo on Bali road, also collapsed due to the impact of flooding thereby cutting off access to some local government areas, including Bali, Gashaka, Sardauna, Kurmi, Donga, Takum and Ussa.

He lamented that the effects and impact of climate change in the zone has imposed significant pressure on the governments and inhabitants of the area who are forced to bear the burden of the attendant socio-economic disruptions.

According to him, “The North-east region and its components are the most affected by climate change and it has put significant pressure on both the government and inhabitants of the region

“I was in Adamawa State two weeks ago for the same problem. Bauchi State has its own share, so is Gombe State too. Now we have also seen the same problem in Taraba State where some bridges have been washed away few days ago.”

The NEDC boss pleaded with the governments and people of the affected states to regularly do an assessment of the state of climate change prone facilities and infrastructure in their areas to prevent the collapse of such facilities.

Nevertheless, he assured them that the commission would not be deterred by the challenges but work with the respective state governments to find lasting solutions to the recurrent bridge collapse across the region.

He added: “Right now we have to sit down and look at the problem comprehensively and provide solutions that would be durable for the future. It will be a collaborative work with the state governments so that our people can heave a sigh of relief.”

Describing the scenario, which has compelled commuters to pay as much as N5,000 to ferry operators to cross the river as endemic, Alkali promised that a temporary solution would immediately be provided in the interim to reconnect the state economically, while a permanent solution would be put in place subsequently.

The managing director also used the opportunity of the assessment tour to inspect some of the commission’s ongoing projects at Wukari, Bali, Zing and Jalingo LGAs of the state where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the sites.

Former governor of Taraba State, Rev Jolly Nyame, has declared that the ballot box rather than brigandage and terrorism is the only constitutional means of removing a democratically elected government.

Addressing a press conference at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Jalingo yesterday against the backdrop of the planned nationwide protest to end bad governance, Nyame noted that the language of the planners of the protest is threatening, divisive and clearly aims at removing a democratically elected government.

Acknowledging the right of every Nigerian to complain or protest against bad governance, he however cautioned that the planned action can only worsen the present situation in the country and endanger the lives of thousands of people.

According to him, “Whereas every Nigerian has the right to complain or protest against bad governance, the language employed by the planners is threatening, divisive and clearly aims at removing a democratically elected government.

“This action can only worsen the situation and endanger the lives of thousands of people. There is already a constitutional means of removing a bad government through the ballot box and not brigandage and terrorism.”

Nyame, who is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd civilian governor of Taraba State stressed that Nigerians have every reason to be angry due to the glaring shortages of all basic needs for survival such as food, affordable medicare and education and therefore urged the government to brace up to address the challenges.

Enjoining Nigerian youths, particularly youths of Yorro nation, in Adamawa and Taraba States to shun the planned protest, Nyame noted: “As the saying goes, ‘A hungry man is an angry man’. This bad situation is bound to tempt us into taking drastic and regrettable action. As the Ecclesiastes said – “There is time for everything under the sun” – including prosperity and sufferings.

“For this reason, I must appeal to you against joining the national citizens’ protest being planned against the government under the guise of advocating for good governance as it would only promote destruction, anarchy and loss of lives.”

He urged the government to take responsibility and blame for some of the problems affecting the country just as he stated that “as Nigerians, we should examine our actions in the face of the prevailing unfortunate situation to see whether or not we have contributed positively or otherwise in our various walks of life to the situation.”

He however appealed to the federal government to prioritize subsidizing agriculture, education and health care delivery which according to him would impact positively and have direct effects on the lives of the people of Yorro nation whom he noted engage in various noble means of livelihood, particularly agriculture.

Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State, has sentenced two men to 1 year and six months imprisonment for dealing in cannabis and psychotropic substances.

Justice Ibrahim sentenced the convicts to the various jail terms after pleading guilty to the 2 and 4 count charges preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The convicted persons: 44-year-old Baba Usman and Ammar Abdullahi, 22, were arranged in court on June 10, where the pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Ibrahim averred that it is a trite principle of law that where a defendant pleads guilty to a non-capital offence and the court is satisfied that he understood the charge and intended to admit all the ingredients of the offence by pleading guilty to the charge, the next thing is for the court to convict and sentence the defendant.

He further stated that having heard the confessional/admission of the defendants, the evidence adduced by the prosecution as well as the exhibits tendered, the court is convinced of the commission of the offences in the charges by the defendants.

He held that having heard the plea of Allocutus by counsel to the defendants, A.M. Vakude, Baba Usman was sentenced to six months imprisonment for the two-count charges without any option of fine from the date of incarceration at the NDLEA facility which are to run concurrently.

In the same vein, Justice Ibrahim sentenced Ammar Abdullahi to one year imprisonment for the four count charges without option of fine from the date of incarceration at the NDLEA facility and are to run concurrently.

Ibi was abducted in December 2017 in Takum and his body was later found in a bush in January 2018 after being killed by his abductors after collecting N30m ransom.

Justice Agya, who expressed disappointment over the non-arraignment of Tikare directed the State Police Command to effect the arrest of the former chairman and produce him in court to face justice.

According to the Iloyanomon, “we are on his trail. I learnt he has relocated from the state to an unknown destination but there is a manhunt for him. He will surely be arrested no matter how long.”

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police said that a total of 28 suspects have been arrested in the past four weeks for various offences ranging from kidnapping, culpable homicide, armed robbery, illegal possession of arms, cybercrimes, banditry, criminal conspiracy, theft, and cattle rustling.

Several items including AK 47 rifles and other brands of arms, ammunition, locally made rifles, motorcycles, tricycles, cattle, cash and other items were recovered from the suspects.

Among the suspects, according to the police boss, were the abductors of students of Federal University, Wukari, some weeks ago.

According to Iloyanomon, “there is no doubt that the police command, leveraging the support and cooperation of security agencies in the state and the good people of Taraba State, have worked assiduously to fight head-on all forms of criminality with remarkable achievements.

The commissioner, however, revealed that members of a patrol team who turned down a bribe of N8 million have been rewarded by the Inspector General of Police, IGP. Kayode Egbetokun, for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

He urged other officers and men to emulate their good conduct just as he expressed appreciation to the governor of the state, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his support to the police and other security agencies in the state which have contributed immensely to the numerous successes being recorded in policing the state.

Taraba: Kutebs Kick Against Rotation of Takum Traditional Stool /2024/02/23/taraba-kutebs-kick-against-rotation-of-takum-traditional-stool/ Fri, 23 Feb 2024 15:45:00 +0000 https://admin.thisdaylive.com/?p=954984

The Kutebs ethnic group in Taraba State has kicked against the proposed rotation of the first class traditional stool in Takum Local Government Area by the state government.

Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, had sent an executive bill to the state House of Assembly in which he proposed to rotate the stool which had been vacant since 1996.

But addressing a press conference shortly after submitting their memoranda at the public hearing organized by the House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Kutebs stated that the proposal was an attempt to disintegrate their cultural heritage.

In their separate presentations, the representative of Likam and Akente, the two ruling houses in Takum, Prince Sule Yusu, and the President of Youth Wing of Kuteb Yatso, Ande Yakubu, vehemently opposed the passage of the bill, saying the governor has no power to abolish an existing stool.

Similarly, the two groups also expressed their opposition to the proposition to create three third class chiefs in Takum by the state government as contained in the executive bill.

Urging the House of Assembly to be fair and just in the matter, they maintained that the Takum traditional stool dates back to 1510 and it has always been an exclusive preserve of the Kuteb.

According to Yakubu, “The Takum traditional institution was created in 1510 and it was upgraded to third class in 1914 by the Queen of England. It was elevated to second class in 1982 and first class in 2005. This action of the state government seeks to dismantle and abrogate the existing traditional institution.

“We have presented our paper at the public hearing, and our position remains the same. Even if the law permits the governor to create chiefdoms, I do not think the law allows the governor to demolish an existing chiefdom.

“And our way of protest in this matter is through this means, to draw attention to the issue in Takum.”

Also speaking, Prince Sule Yusu noted that the northern traditional rulers, headed by the Sultan of Sokoto had, in their meeting, held on February 14, 2024 in Kaduna warned against rotation of traditional stool especially among different ethnic groups.

Twenty-Eight years after the demise of the last paramount ruler of Takum, Ukwe Ali Ibrahim Kufang Ii, a new Ukwe has finally been selected according to Kuteb culture and tradition.

In a press statement released by the Kuteb leadership and signed by Fili, the new crown prince has been enthroned after undergoing all the basic rites of ascension to the paramount throne of Ukwe Takum.

Ukwe Takum, according to the release, is the paramount ruler of Takum and the spiritual leader of the Kuteb people who are a Jukunoid tribe of Southern Taraba and ancient Kwarrarafa Kingdom.

The new Ukwe, according to the press release, would be presented to the state government for recognition and preparation towards presentation of the staff of the office.

Failure to fill the vacant stool of Ukwe Takum, which is a first Class stool since 1996, according to the Kuteb leaders, was due to the laxity and lack of commitment by successive Taraba State’s governors despite recommendations by series of committees of enquiries that affirmed that the paramount throne of Ukwe Takum is the exclusive preserve of Kuteb.

“Takum flourished under successive Ukwes until about 28 years ago when the last Ukwe joined his ancestors. Since then the throne had been vacant.

“While lack of ascension to the throne was deemed to be from laxity and lack of commitment of successive Taraba State governors despite recommendations by series of committees of enquiries that the paramount throne of Ukwe Takum is an exclusive preserve of Kuteb.

“We also knew that the delay was partly due to the long process that it could sometimes take for the ancestors to select the right person from the ruling Kuteb families for the throne.

“The Kuteb people are happy to announce that finally, the ancestors have spoken, the crown prince has been identified and the Ukwe Takum has, therefore, been selected according to Kuteb culture and tradition. He has undergone all the basic rites of ascension to the paramount throne of Ukwe Takum and has since been enthroned.”

The Kuteb leaders noted that the development has brought so much joy and happiness across Takum and its environs, which has been attested to by a cross section of all the inhabitants of Takum.

The leaders further noted that the selection of the new Ukwe was divinely timely, and in accordance with the ancient landmarks that predate when the seat was upgraded to third class seat by the colonial masters.

“It is pertinent to note here that tradition and culture of a people transcends government and cannot be modified, exchanged or erased. It cannot be mixed with any other culture or tradition or adulterated by any alien ideology or self-serving interest.

“Therefore, tradition is the right and identity of a people and their exclusive preserve. We wish to state emphatically that the throne of the paramount Ukwe Takum is not a commodity for trade. Therefore, consultation outside the tradition is meddlesome.

“There was no meddling by government during the selection and installation of Aku Uka and Gara of Donga who are both first class monarchs of Wukari and Donga respectively. The two were only presented to government for presentation of the staff of office after traditional rites. The case of Ukwe Takum, equally a first-class monarch, cannot be different.”

Kefas: Why Education Took Lion Share of Taraba’s 2024 Budget /2023/12/23/kefas-why-education-took-lion-share-of-tarabas-2024-budget-2/ Sat, 23 Dec 2023 08:44:50 +0000 https://admin.thisdaylive.com/?p=937749

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has revealed why education got the lion share of the state’s 2024 budget, saying the budget was designed to actualise the free education policy of his administration.

The governor, who described education as a major priority of his administration, stressed that besides his commitment to securing the state for citizens and investors, education would remain his major focus.

The sum of N43.2 billion which represents 13.9 per cent of the N311 billion 2024 budget was budgeted for education in 2024 which is a clear demonstration of the Kefas administration’s commitment to the success of the free education policy.

The governor, upon assumption of office, declared primary and secondary education free and compulsory in the state just as he slashed tuition fees by 50 per cent in all the state owned tertiary institutions..

Kefas, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, maintained that education is the key to unlock the myriad of problems confronting the state just as expressed his determination to provide  free, compulsory and qualitative education in the state.

According to him, “education is the answer to many of the ills the state has been experiencing. With better learning, inner city crimes would be reduced and the necessary manpower will be developed as a well trained person is best suited for employment.”

“The economic hardship currently being experienced may force parents to pull out their wards from schools and that would have devastating consequences on communities. The main reason for the surge in crimes among the young is idleness and lack of proper education.”

Bemoaning the high rate of out of school children in the state, the governor insists that only the free education strategy can solve the problem and reverse the trend.

Stressing that many youths were unemployable as a result of lack of sound education, the governor stated that though the free education policy is capital intensive, his administration would think outside the box to find ways of funding it.

He further added that prudent management of state resources would free up funds to implement the policy adding that the will, zeal and commitment of his administration to the policy attract patronage and sponsorship that would guarantee the success of the programme.

Kefas revealed that provisions have been made in the 2024 budget for training of teachers, construction of new classrooms and effective teaching aides while students would resume in January with free uniforms and textbooks.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has appealed to Nigerians to stop stigmatising inmates who are set free or have completed their terms.

Speaking at the Jalingo Medium Security Correctional Centre  during the official release of 20 inmates whose fines and compensation were paid by the government, the minister urged the society to assist freed inmates to resettle back to their various communities.

A Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr Garba Mohammed, who represented the minister on the occasion appealed to the freed inmates to go and establish the trades they learnt at the correctional centre and shun crime in all ramifications.

He disclosed that over 4000 inmates would regain their freedom across the country as part of efforts to decongest the correctional centres, saying the decision was solely the initiative of the minister.

Besides, he revealed that the minister had made provision for the freed inmates to be given N10,000 each for transportation back to their various homes and communities.

He tasked the Taraba state government and other well-meaning individuals to take a cue from the minister and endeavour to pay the fines and compensations of inmates.

“There are people who were brought here because they could not pay fines of less than N1,000  and are languishing in jail,” he lamented.

He admonished the freed inmates to be good ambassadors of the correctional centre and be of good conduct wherever they find themselves, saying their coming to the centre was to be reformed and be better persons.

The Chief Judge of Taraba state, Justice Filibus Agya who was represented by the Chief Registrar, Bartholomew Kaigama, commended the minister for the gesture and expressed the readiness of the state judiciary to collaborate with the ministry of interior to decongest correctional centres in the state.

“This is a commendable effort and we’re ready to collaborate with the minister to decongest correctional centres in the state. We started the process in 2022 and we’ll support any initiative in that regard,” he noted.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Controller of Correctional Services in the state, Mr Emmanuel Okoro, noted that the exercise was the first of its kind in the country.

He stated that the minister had offered to pay the fines and compensations of  inmates from N1 million and below, saying a total of 153 inmates from the various correctional centres in the state will benefit from the programme.

Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has finally revealed that his predecessor, Darius Ishaku, left an empty treasury to him when he assumed office.

Kefas disclosed this yesterday at the opening ceremony of a 5- day professional development workshop for Secretaries of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State government held in Jalingo.

Notwithstanding the empty coffers, the governor stressed that he has been consistent with the payment of salaries and pensions of civil servants in the state.

Represented by the Head of Service of the State, Suzie Nathan, Kefas maintained that his administration was committed to the welfare of its workforce and would do everything possible to boost their morale.

“You will recall that in my inauguration speech, I clearly stated that I will revitalise the public service and restore the integrity of the civil service, which has been bastardised through favouritism and political considerations.

“The welfare of workers and pensioners was top on my 5-point development agenda for Taraba State and I will remain focused on that till we’re able to achieve our objective.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, despite the empty coffers we met on the ground since taking office on May 29, 2023, I have made sure that employee salaries are paid on time and in addition to meeting our commitments to pay pensioners, we have also added those who had previously been off the payroll, allowing them to continue receiving their monthly pensions without interruption.

“Let me reassure you that my administration will continue to place a high priority on your welfare because a happy workforce will be committed, diligent, and forward-thinking.

“Therefore, as this administration stabilises and puts its development plan into action, I ask for the steadfast support, loyalty, and collaboration of the whole Civil Service in implementing our strategies and goals,” he said.

The governor revealed that the state would soon conduct a biometric data capture of civil servants to authenticate the true size of its workforce as well as employ talented young men and women into the service.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has decried the non-implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed by the Taraba State government to restore industrial harmony in the institution.
In a statement released at the end of its Congress meeting held yesterday, which was signed by its Chairman, Dr. Mbave Joshua Garba, the union described the non-implementation of the MoA as highly demoralising.

According to ASUU- TSU, the MoA was signed on 18th March, 2021, between the Taraba State Government, Taraba State University Management and ASUU-TSU branch, to resolve the myriad of issues causing industrial disharmony in the institution.
The issues the MoA was to resolve included non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) since 2015 and lack of clarity regarding staff pension and gratuity.

Others were the construction of the perimeter fence to enhance the security of the university as well as the outstanding promotion arrears for 2020, 2021, and 2022, and the annual step increment from October 2020 to July 2021.

Similarly, the union lamented the delays, irregular and sometimes fractional payment of salaries saying its members were being owed six full months and seven months fractional salaries, adding that they were yet to be paid their salaries for the month of July and August which it described as worrisome.
Calling for an expeditious action to address the state of emergency in the institution, the Union Congress also called for the full implementation of Law No. 4 of the Taraba State House of Assembly to address the funding challenge of the University.

The funding sources outlined in Law No 4 included five per cent of the monthly State statutory allocation, five per cent of the monthly statutory allocation of Local governments in the state and 2.5 per cent of contracts awarded by the state and local governments.
Other sources were two per cent State Education levy from charges on guests in hotels in the state as well as other sources as determined by the University Council.

The ASUU- TSU maintained that the lack of proper funding had negatively impacted the smooth running of the institution and therefore called for urgent action to ensure the Law is fully implemented.
