Hamthel Holdings, a rapidly growing Nigerian brand in the construction and building industry, has officially opened its cutting-edge head office in Lagos.

The inauguration ceremony drew attendees from diverse sectors of Nigerian society.

Founder of Hamthel Holdings, Ezeonu Ezeonu, shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey at the launch.

A Nigerian returnee with extensive business experience in the United States, Ezeonu recounted how his frustration with subpar paints in Nigeria sparked the creation of Hamthel Luxury Paints, in partnership with Dubai-based Ritver Paints.

This venture eventually led the company into construction, culminating in the unveiling of its iconic head office – a showcase for affordable luxury housing.

According to him, “We wanted to demonstrate that affordable luxury homes are achievable,” Ezeonu explained. Many Nigerians tend to cut corners, so we aimed to exemplify class through our projects.”

He highlighted Hamthel Holdings’ expansion into various sectors, including Hamthel Residence and Hamthel Luxury Tower, born out of his dissatisfaction with substandard apartments encountered during his visits from the U.S.

Ezeonu emphasised, “I knew I had to create something better – luxury, yet affordable. The company has ventured into international real estate, offering lucrative investment opportunities in Dubai with promising returns of up to 40% in 18 months, alongside benefits like 10-year green cards for families and visa support.”

The entrepreneur also revealed that Hamthel Holdings’ product portfolio expanded to include Hamthel Luxury Towels after he encountered quality gaps in the market. “We wanted our customers to experience excellence,” he said, citing issues like towels leaving white stains on skin.

Ezeonu concluded that the new head office serves as a hub for Hamthel Holdings’ diverse brands, encompassing smart doors and locks, premium paints, short-let apartments, luxury towels, beauty products, and strategic property investments.

The Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Coscharis Group, Dr Cosmas Maduka, has stated that transparency, accountability, honesty, trustworthiness and decency were the reasons why Nigeria banks are lending him money without demanding for a collateral in accordance with the banking law.

Maduka disclosed this while mentoring Nigeria youths on how to be self-disciplined, responsible, hardworking, determined, dedicated and focused in their various fields of endeavour at a two-day 2025 Under 45 CEOs Ƶ and Leadership Summit with the topic: “From power to purpose, leading with ethical courage, organized by Ultimate Destiny Uplifters Foundation (UDUF Africa), held at Bishop Patterson auditorium , All Saints Cathedral,Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, on Saturday.

According to him, faith in God, self-belief and trust are what every Nigerian youth need at the moment to grow and develope themselves and the country at large.

“I didn’t do money ritual to grow, I made my money through faith in God and the trust people bestowed upon me. What you build on people last longer than what you build for yourself. You wouldn’t believe that in the last thrity years I never signed cheque of Coscharis Group despite having Yorubas as my Group Managing Director and Financial controller respectively as a typical Igbo man from Nnewi, Anambra State.

” I am reciprocating that trust people, investors and Nigeria Financial Institutions bestowed on me that have graciously lead me to the position I found myself today. I am looking for value and not tribalism as a humble man who started hustling as an Akara seller in Jos, Plateau State.

“You must learned to be trusted if you want to change your negative narratives in this World. Today, we live in a place where trust is almost impossible. Nobody will believe your vision and passion until you believe in yourself. You are the change Nigeria is looking for.

“I didn’t start life as a CEO, I started as an Akara seller in Jos, Plateau State, after I lost my father at the age of four.

” I rose to this position I am today, through faith in God and self-belief.

“I didn’t do my business along government sectors, I didn’t build Coscharis to prove that I am a powerful Nigeria, I built it because I believe that business is a calling. My guiding principles is whatever thing you do, do it as unto the Lord. Success is not about what you gain but about who you become and how you serve the society. Success without integrity lead to destruction. Focus without purpose is like a motion without direction.

“Because of my honest determination to grow and my trustworthiness, banks in Nigeria are lending me money without demanding for collateral, and the bank that first risk the trust in me was Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB).

“In 1977, I founded Coscharis Motor, a one- man trading venture that grew into the Coscharis Group, a wholly Nigerian-owned conglomerate with interest spanning automobile, auto-assembly, logistics, IT, agriculture, medical equipment, food and beverages, and chemicals. Today, the group represents leading global brands such as BMW, Jaguar,Land Rover, Ford, Renault and roll royce with operations across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones and in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Japan respectively.

“When you live a life of integrity, people will trust you, investors will believe you and most importantly God would back you up. Do not look for change, you are the change Nigeria is yielding for. I therefore urged you all to used what you have learned here today to develop a vision that will change the socio-economic hardship Nigerians are currently going through at the moment, Maduka concluded.

In his opening remarks, founder of UDUF Africa, Dr. Ezuma Smart Chinedu, emphasized the importance of youth perseverance and acquiring necessary skills to achieve business goals.

He explain that the 2025 summit with the Theme; LeaderShift: Building a new mindset for ethical leadership, was to guide young entrepreneurs on how to remain afloat in their endeavors following the challenges faced by businesses in the country.

Steel Development: Minister Calls for Stronger Synergy to Overcome Sector Challenges /2025/10/18/steel-development-minister-calls-for-stronger-synergy-to-overcome-sector-challenges/ /2025/10/18/steel-development-minister-calls-for-stronger-synergy-to-overcome-sector-challenges/#respond Sat, 18 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 /?p=1135492
•Unveils strategic vision to revive sector

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, has called for stronger collaboration between the government, private investors, and other stakeholders to address the challenges confronting Nigeria’s steel sector.

Audu made the call while declaring open the Nigeria Steel Forum, a sideline event at the 10th Nigeria Mining Week in Abuja.

The Minister, while unveiling a comprehensive strategic vision of the Renewed Hope administration aimed at reviving the steel industry and positioning it as a key catalyst for national industrial growth, described the forum as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency in steel production.

He noted that only four African countries—Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, and Morocco—accounted for 88% of the continent’s steel output in 2023, despite Nigeria’s abundant iron ore deposits.

He stressed that closing this gap requires coherent policies, private sector leadership, and deliberate investment in infrastructure and capacity development.

Prince Audu reaffirmed the Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to creating an enabling environment for investors through favourable fiscal incentives, legal reforms, and public-private partnerships.

He added that the administration’s goal is to make Nigeria a regional hub for steel production, targeting 10 million tonnes of crude steel annually by 2030 and creating over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Minister, commended the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, under the leadership of Dr. Henry Dele Alake, and the event organisers for integrating the Steel Forum into the Nigeria Mining Week to foster cross-sector collaboration.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Chris Isokpunwu, described the Forum as a milestone in Nigeria’s industrial development journey.

He noted that it builds on the outcomes of the Maiden National Steel Summit, which charted a roadmap for reviving Ajaokuta Steel Company and NIOMCO, adopting a national steel policy, and developing skilled manpower across the value chain.

Dr. Isokpunwu urged participants to translate policy discussions into actionable partnerships and private-sector-driven investments, commending the Honourable Minister for his visionary leadership and commitment to revitalising the steel sector.

Also delivering a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, highlighted limited access to capital as a major challenge for developing economies, noting that with public financing shrinking globally due to the effects of COVID-19, climate change, and conflicts, sectors like steel must attract private investment through clear and consistent policies, as envisioned by the Honourable Minister.

Engr. Yabo commended the Minister’s proactive approach in strengthening institutions and policy frameworks and expressed optimism that these initiatives will create the right environment for private sector participation in reviving Nigeria’s steel industry.

Participants at the Forum included heads of agencies under the Ministry, development partners, and representatives of the organised private sector.

I’m Ready to Consolidate on Gov. Uzodimma’s Achievements — Orie /2025/07/18/im-ready-to-consolidate-on-gov-uzodimmas-achievements-orie/ /2025/07/18/im-ready-to-consolidate-on-gov-uzodimmas-achievements-orie/#respond Thu, 17 Jul 2025 23:04:00 +0000 /?p=1104459

*Former Managing Director/CEO of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Hon. Charles Orie, in this interview speaks on his achievements in office, his long-standing relationship with Governor Hope Uzodimma, and why he is being urged to contest the 2027 Imo State governorship election. Excerpts:

You served as the MD of ISOPADEC. What were your achievements during your tenure?

When His Excellency appointed me as MD, many doubted I would succeed — but with his support, we proved them wrong. Within my first 100 days, we commissioned over 40 projects across the oil-producing LGAs. In Akri, Oguta LGA, we built a new primary school, a health center, police station, and installed solar street lights. In Ngor-Okpala, we constructed a health center and two solar boreholes. Ohaji/Egbema saw major renovations of health centers, water projects, and solar lighting.
We later completed three 20-bed modern general hospitals — at Omuma (Oru East), Oguta, and Umuokenne (Ohaji/Egbema). These hospitals are fully equipped with world-class medical equipment. We also built a brand-new concrete bridge in Oguta LGA at Senator Arthur Nzeribe’s community road — a first of its kind in the history of ISOPADEC. By the time I left office, we had also: Renovated Awomamma, Oguta, Akuma, Amiri, and Mgbirichi General Hospitals. Built the new Awomamma Acquisition Center. Initiated renovation works at Agwa General Hospital, Oguta LGA .Awara Health Centre Ohaji, Mgbra General Hospital Egbema. Started construction of 24 primary schools across the oil-producing LGAs. Apart from infrastructure, I championed social investments — from youth and women empowerment to monthly support for traditional rulers, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. I personally funded drugs for ISOPADEC clinic at the HQ to cater to indigent residents , ISOPADEC staffs and traditional Rulers. Everything we did is verifiable, and thanks to the Governor’s unwavering support.
What was your relationship like with Governor Hope Uzodimma during and after your time at ISOPADEC?
His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma is not just a friend he is my elder brother. Everybody that knows the two of us in Nigeria calls him my elder brother. Even you guys in Abuja here knows that Governor Hope has been my friend and brother, it remains like that forever because we have no issues with each other at all. I will like to take you through memory lane: before Governor Hope Uzondinma became a politician as a private business man I accompanied him everywhere he goes to both here in Nigeria and United Kingdom every where , I can recall in several locations he was handling projects at cocoa port delta state NDDC project (Sure line protection jobs ) i accompanied him to site regularly, Also his Calabar port dredging contracts from the flag off to regular site visitation I accompanied him, we do everything together I go everywhere with him no matter my own personal schedules he will ask that I accompany him.
As a senate committee chairman of customs and aviation I accompany him to most of his oversight functions in Uyo, Lagos , Port Harcourt, Warri and so many other places. For those who don’t know my relationship with him I don’t believe that there is any politician in Imo state that is closer to him than me, he remains my elder brother , my friend, my leader and the Governor of Imo state. For those 99% who don’t know how we started, their eye service and gossip will never stop our relationship. What you people are now is “food is ready come and eat” because they have no idea where we are coming from. As a politician, I stood by him. I organized the very first meeting that urged him to run for Senate in 2010 at Sun City Hotel in Owerri. I organized a lot of our men from Orlu senatorial zone to urge him to run for senate and take over from Senator Osita Izunaso that is how we put pressure on Ikedi Ohakem to support H.E Governor Hope Uzodinma for the 2011 senatorial elections and everything became history we won the election.
His second term Senatorial election, I was a major player also, In 2018 APC Governorship primaries i am one of those who urged him to leave senate and run for Governor under APC we collectively worked with him and he became the APC Governorship candidate and when he became the candidate of APC he sent me to Owerri to go and organize Imo state politicians before he arrives, I was in Imo State for 3weeks formed friends of hope campaign organization in my country home umuokenne i sponsored several meetings in my country home before I moved the meeting to oxygen hotel Owerri before the big masquerade the Governor came back to Owerri and joined us and expanded the campaign and we remained at the oxygen hotel Owerri throughout the election and everything became history today. From 1999 till Governor Hope Uzodinma became Governor, I have not benefited a dime from any former Governor or politician because they tagged some of us as Hope boys and I agree because my loyalty all my life I have been with him I served him with love and sincerity. His children and mine are like family. Our bond remains unshakable.

There is speculation going about you contesting the Imo governorship in 2027. Are you confirming this ambition, and is the governor supporting you?

Yes, when I resigned from ISOPADEC, I made it clear in my letter that I needed time to prepare for 2027. The governor is aware. And I believe the right thing is for him to support me — just as I supported him for years, even before he ventured into politics. Right now, people — from Abuja, Lagos and the Imolights in diaspora, and within Imo State — are urging me to contest. I’ll make my decision known at the right time.

What inspires your ambition to govern Imo State?
Governor Uzodimma’s performance is my greatest inspiration. He proved doubters wrong, just as I did at ISOPADEC. Look around the Owerri-Orlu highway, the Owerri-Okigwe highway, the Owerri-Umuahia Mbaise highway, and the dualized Owerri -Port Hacort road from Asompta to the Secretariat are all game changers. He negotiated with the Catholic community to build one of the best concrete bridges in Imo’s history. Now he’s rebuilding Concord Hotel to become the finest in the South-East/South-South also the owerri urban renewal etc. His health insurance policy ensures women give birth free of charge in rural communities. These are legacy projects, and I want to consolidate on them.
I’m a builder — literally and figuratively. People know me across Imo state. I’ve built men for 40 years through scholarships and empowerment. So I don’t need an introduction to lead because I am very popular in the state and Nigeria. I don’t need to be introduced in Abuja because my name is like coca-cola. I have my own mind, just like the Governor. And we need such independence to govern effectively.

What’s your take on the so-called Imo charter of equity regarding rotation of governorship?

I’m not contesting based on any charter of equity. I’m running as an Ohaji-Egbema man. I’m from the oil/Gas producing community of Ohaji-Egbema so am running this election as an Ohaji-egbema man. We’ve been marginalised for decades. Since 1999, everybody that has governed Imo State from the other side of Imo State. Equity demands that this Ohaji-Egbema side of Imo gets a turn to Govern. So I’m not moved by any “charter of equity” that wasn’t honored in past elections.
We have the largest gas deposit in the whole of Africa. We also have a lot of oil wells and Adapalm in Imo State. If Adapalm is handled very well the state can give employment to 5000 youths. So everything giving Imo state revenue today is from Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta. So it’s right that this side of Imo state should produce a Governor next. Talking about chartered of equity. I will not join issues with charter of equity. Whoever wants equity must come with a clean hands.
When Governor Uzodimma won in 2023, candidates from Owerri and Okigwe went to the Supreme court. If they had won, would we be talking about equity now? There is no charter of Equity in my program. I will come out for this election because I am from Ohaji-Egbema.

Amaechi: I Told Tinubu Point-blank, I Won’t Work With Him Before 2023 Elections /2025/06/01/amaechi-i-told-tinubu-point-blank-i-wont-work-with-him-before-2023-elections/ /2025/06/01/amaechi-i-told-tinubu-point-blank-i-wont-work-with-him-before-2023-elections/#comments Sun, 01 Jun 2025 05:02:02 +0000 /?p=1088518

*Tinubu has weaponised poverty, says Atiku

*Rufai: Nigerians allowed urban bandits to take over leadership

* I knew poverty when I became Emir, Says Sanusi

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The former Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday disclosed that he met President Bola Tinubu in Yola, Adamawa State, before the 2023 general election, and told him that he won’t work with him.

Ex-Vice President Abubakar has also accused the President Tinubu-led government of deliberately using poverty as a political weapon, claiming that economic hardship was being manipulated to control and suppress the population.

This is just as a former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has queried the current leadership structure in Nigeria, claiming that the country has been taken over by urban bandits.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II declared that he did not know what poverty was until he became emir.

Speaking in Abuja at his 60th birthday public lecture with the theme: ‘Weaponisation of Poverty as Means of Underdevelopment: As Case Study of Nigeria,’ Amaechi said it was not about the political party as people had insinuated but about capacity.

“I met President Tinubu in Yola and I told him I will not work for you and I will not vote for you. I did not vote for Tinubu. I told him in advance before the election,” Amaechi said.

The former governor of Rivers State added: “I am saying this because of people who feel that I do not work for PDP or APC. I had already told Tinubu in advance and why I said that was because of the issue of capacity.”

According to him, “the current government and their agencies and who work with them, they are not even afraid. You see the kind of houses they are building. If they are not afraid, I am ashamed of them because they have no name. In fact, they say, ‘who did name help?”

The former transportation minister, while lamenting the inconsistencies in the Tinubu-led government, asked what the administration has done with the money that accrued from subsidy removal.

“The government said it has stopped the payment of about N5 trillion in fuel subsidy, the question is: ‘What did they do with the money?’ If you had put it back into the economy, the issue of poverty would have been reduced.”

Amaechi further stated that the issue of insecurity and poverty were major problems in the country and that when he was governor of Rivers State, he noticed that the increase in crime rate was a result of a lack of money in circulation.

“When I was governor of Rivers State, I told my Commissioner of Finance; he is here. What did I tell you? I said, go and raise money, pay contractors, pay salary, pay money.

“And once you pay, insecurity will go away. So, it’s about poverty. It’s about poverty. But currently, everybody wants to amass wealth and the major problem with Nigerians is that they don’t know how to protest.

“It’s only during elections that politicians begin to plan in the minds of Nigerians that they are either Christians or Muslims, playing ethnicity cards instead of capacity-building.

“They came up with a Muslim-Muslim ticket and where has that led us to? They should have equally come up with a Muslim-Muslim market. Hunger knows no one whether you are a Muslim or a Christian. I always say, let’s put the country first in all we do,” Amaechi said.

Tinubu Has Weaponised Poverty, Says Atiku

Also, speaking at the event, Atiku accused the President Tinubu-led government of deliberately using poverty as a political weapon.

He said the current government was not living up to expectations but was using poverty as a weapon to hold Nigerians to ransom.

On why he is joining the coalition to unseat Tinubu, Atiku said, “You may call me a conspirator; you may call me anything, and that is why we are in this alliance to make sure we don’t allow them to continue weaponising poverty.

“Of course, one of our star conspirators is Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Therefore, we are here to wish you many happy returns of the day.

“And we will continue to conspire with you to make sure we minimise poverty and we don’t use state machinery to weaponise poverty. I thank you very much,” Atiku said.

Rufai: Nigerians Allowed Urban Bandits to Take over Leadership

On his part, a former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam El-Rufai has stated the country has been taken over by urban bandits.

El-Rufai claimed that Nigeria is in its biggest trouble since 1914 and, “that is why we are together working and conspiring to build a coalition to take Nigeria back on track because it is off track.

“Nigeria is in the biggest trouble since 1914. It has turned to this level because we have allowed bandits, not the ones in the bushes but the ones in the urban areas called the urban bandits to take over leadership,” he said.

El-Rufai further maintained: “I believe that the problem that we have, which I think Governor Babangida referred to, is that we just get incompetent people and we hand over leadership to them. Most of them don’t really know what to do. They just know how to grab power but don’t know what to do with it.

“Nigerians must stand up and vote for leaders that have the competence, capability, capacity, and commitment to move the country forward,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, stated that he did not know what poverty was until he became emir.

He said the poverty being experienced in the cities like Lagos and Kano is not the real poverty.

“It is nothing. You actually have to go where the majority of our people live to know what poverty is.

So, the first question I think we have to ask ourselves as leaders, all of us, is, ‘Do we actually love the people, or do you just love ruling over them?’

“Do we actually love Nigerians as human beings? You can say, I love Nigeria. What is Nigeria?

“It’s the people who live there. What are our priorities I did not know about poverty until I became an Emir, seeing things myself,” Sanusi said.

However, former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, while congratulating Amaechi, said: “Remember, this was how you people collaborated to remove a good government.

“Eleven years later, you people are here again, discussing collaboration. I say to Nigerians ‘shine your eyes,” Dickson warned.

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

In furtherance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to establish a direct air route between Nigeria and South America, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has arrived in Brazil on a strategic working visit.

Keyamo touched down in Brazil accompanied by the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, and representatives of local Nigerian airline operators.

At the heart of the visit is a high-level engagement with global aircraft manufacturer and lessor, Embraer, at its headquarters in São José dos Campos, São Paulo State.

Embraer, a renowned leader in regional aircraft production, is collaborating with the Nigerian delegation to explore avenues for strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem through enhanced access to modern aircraft, favourable leasing options, and a network of credible financiers.

Keyamo, in a statement Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Media & Communications, Tunde Moshood, said: “We had extensive discussions with Embraer on how they can support our aviation sector with their vast network of lessors and financial institutions.

“The goal is to empower Nigerian operators with the tools and partnerships necessary for growth and expansion.”

The Association of professional Meteorologist of Nigeria, a professional body in NiMET has written to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and World Meteorological Organisation (WNO) over the stance of some airlines flying without proper meteorological briefing and reports during the recent strike action embarked on by aviation unions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had commenced strike actions over what it described as ‘poor condition of service and unmet needs.’

Following the development, Air Peace had announced suspension of flight operations while other airlines continued to operate relying on other sources of weather reports.

A letter by Awotu Auptre, chairman, Abuja branch and Adeyewa, President, Nigeria Meteorology Society, read: “that the statement by United Airlines using a quack form to get meteorological information is risky to Nigerian aviation users due to safety reasons.

“United Airlines are not trained to issue meteorological reports or recieve ISO certification to embark on this fruitless and fatal journey for Nigerian aviation sector.”

Auptre added that the professional body, with the Nigerian Meteorological Society, has contacted ICAO and WMO on the issue, stating: “The act that United airlines is following is rogue and contradicting best practices and airlines safety is being threatened and lives of Nigerian Aviation users is prone to air accident and crashes.”

United Nigeria Airlines on Wednesday affirmed that its flight operations remain fully safe, reliable, and compliant with aviation regulatory standards.

In a public statement issued on Thursday, the airline expressed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and confidence of its passengers during this period of uncertainty.

The statement, signed by Chibuike Uloka, Public Relations Officer of the airline, highlighted proactive measures already in place to guarantee uninterrupted operations across its routes.

“United Nigeria Airlines wishes to reassure our valued passengers and the general flying public that our flight operations remain safe, reliable, and fully compliant with regulatory standards, despite the ongoing industrial action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet),” the statement read in part.

The airline noted that alternative arrangements have been made to bridge any potential gaps.

“Our flight planning and dispatch teams are fully equipped and working round-the-clock to ensure that all safety protocols are strictly observed, and passenger comfort remains uninterrupted,” the airline affirmed.

NiMet is the agency responsible for issuing weather reports to airlines and pilots.

•As NIEEE tasks members to reduce numbers of work-related deaths, injuries

•Urges employees to cultivate culture of occupational safety and health

Onyebuchi Ezigbo and Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, (NSITF), Seun Faleye, has said that federal government is giving to priority to the safety and health of workers in the country.

Speaking at a press conference to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work at the Fund’s corporate head office in Abuja Monday, the Managing Director, represented by the Executive Director, Finance and Investments, Dr. Adedeji Adegoke, reaffirmed the management’s “unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of Nigerian workers.”

In a related development on the World Day for Safety, the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Monday, tasked its members to cultivate a culture of occupational safety and health, thereby reducing the number of work-related deaths and injuries.

To this end, it encouraged governments to ensure appropriate work environments, infrastructure, and just laws for employees and workers.

The President of NIEEE, Engr Felix O. Olu, in his welcome address at a one-day webinar to commemorate the occasion, noted that in every year, for the past twenty-two years, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), commemorates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on the 28 April.

Meanwhile, while explaining the theme “Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work,” NSITF MD Seun Faleye said the world is currently going through technological renaissance that is redefining the modern workplace.

He acknowledged the role of Artificial Intelligence, digital sensors, machine learning and other technologies that were once futuristic, in saving lives, restoring dignity and minimising injuries at the workplace.

The Managing Director said the theme aligned with the strategic focus of NSITF on prevention of workplace accidents, protection and productivity.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was instituted by the International Labour Organization, (ILO) in 2003 to raise awareness on the importance of preventing workplace accidents, injuries and diseases and to champion the culture of safety and health at work.

The NSITF boss enjoined all stakeholders to make this year’s safety and health week a turning point.

He called for stronger collaboration among partners, better policies and commensurate resources even as he urged the media to help spread the message of safety and health at work.

The MD said that a safe worker is a productive worker and a healthy workplace, a prosperous nation.

The NSITF has lined up week-long activities to commemorate the day. Among these is a roadshow in Abuja, Monday, sequel to the press briefing, to sensitive the public on safety and health at work.

On his part, according to the President of NIEEE, Engr. Felix O. Olu, “The 2025 World Day for Safety and Health at Work has been tuned to focus on the impact of digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) on workers’ safety and health.

“The chosen theme is “Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalisation at Work”. It is stating the obvious to say that this theme is relevant to EEE.”

Engr. Olu said: “Members will recall that we have a professional Section, Embedded and Emerging Technologies, to handle such issues as artificial intelligence and others, ICTE and ECE, having direct relevance to digitalisation.

“However, this year, in view of the cross-cutting nature of AI, today’s commemoration is being organised by another relevant professional Section, Avionics and Space Engineering, harnessing a related focus environment as case study for the webinar.

“The ILO selected the 2025 theme with the objective of discussing and harnessing how artificial intelligence and digitalisation are transforming workplace safety and health, encompassing new technologies like advanced robotics, data analytics and exploring how these technologies impact occupational safety.”

He further added that the take-home message therefore is to protect the rights of employees and workers, by cultivating a culture of occupational safety and health, to reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.

His words: “It is also to encourage governments to ensure appropriate work environments, infrastructure, and just laws for employees and workers. I enjoin all present today to carry forward these messages in addition to technical knowledge that will be shared today.

“On behalf of the National EXCO, I want to thank all present here today for your availability, whether you are our member or not.

“Let us remember that the primary and most basic evidence of responsibility for safety at work, is diligent use of Personal Protection Equipment, PPE.

“That is why most common symbol of today’s celebration across the world carries a helmet somewhere somehow.

“I congratulate the Chairman/VP ASE, Engr Terab Ibn-Ali and his Section Board members for successfully mounting this webinar,” Olu concluded.

WMD: NiMet Seeks Modernisation of Hydrometeorological Infrastructure to Reduce Early Warning Gaps /2025/03/25/wmd-nimet-seeks-modernisation-of-hydrometeorological-infrastructure-to-reduce-early-warning-gaps/ /2025/03/25/wmd-nimet-seeks-modernisation-of-hydrometeorological-infrastructure-to-reduce-early-warning-gaps/#respond Tue, 25 Mar 2025 03:55:35 +0000 /?p=1068479

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has sought more modernised hydrometeorological infrastructure to enhance early warning and a solid step towards reducing the early warning gaps.

It added that the unprecedented weather extremes in past few years was due to lack of access to latest technologies, uncoordinated dissemination efforts, insecurity and maintainability of early warning systems must be proactively addressed.

The Director General, NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, gave the hint on Monday in Abuja during the 2025 World Meteorological Day with the theme: “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together”.

He added that the agency has continued to work towards upgrading its weather systems, providing quality observation and robust weather forecasts to trigger pre-emptive measures and equip stakeholders with the necessary tools to interpret early warnings and respond with early actions.

Anosike noted that the annual event provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the role of meteorology in building a climate-resilient society and safeguarding lives and livelihoods.

Anosike stated: “Investing in early warning systems not only saves countless lives and livelihood, it generates ten times return on investment and strengthen economies.

“Of course, we are excited by the progress made in expanding early warning systems coverage worldwide as we continued to experience increasing climate variability and extreme weather events.”

To support this global endeavour, Anosike posited that the agency has been engaged in strengthening forecasting and dissemination capabilities to ensure communities and individuals prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather.

Anosike stressed that NiMet remained at the forefront of advancing early warning systems through science-based weather and climate services.

He said: “Our Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), daily weather forecast and bulletins, Impact-Based forecast and other publications have proven instrumental in disaster risk reduction across all socio-economic sectors.

“We must recognise that closing the early warning gap requires all, including strong collaboration, coordination and cooperation between national and international partners, policymakers, the private sector, and local communities especially the youth. Government alone cannot do it.”

Speaking earlier, the representative of the WMO, Bernard Gomez, said, In Nigeria, the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, windstorms, floods, and dry spells has witnessed an increase in the last 10 years with huge implications for human lives and socio-economic development.

He explained that WMO’s top overriding priority is to ensure that early warning systems protect everyone, everywhere on the planet. “To achieve this, international collaboration is more important than ever before, hence the theme of this year’s World Meteorological Day which is “Closing the Early Warnings Gap Together.”

Gomez further said that National ownership remains at the heart of the Early Warnings for All initiative, with governments leading efforts to strengthen resilience and establish sustainable early warning systems.

“We are glad to note that collaboration with bilateral and multilateral donors, climate funds, and development banks is increasing support for early warning efforts.

“This is because the Early Warnings for All initiative is a human and moral imperative and it makes economic sense,” he said.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA) yesterday in Abuja said that the country’s aviation industry State Safety Programme (SSP) document will soon be published, with its completion being accelerated.

NCAA disclosed that the SSP is an integrated set of regulations and activities aimed at improving safety in civil aviation.

The Director-General, NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, in his welcome address said the document is required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and is unique to each member state.

He added that as part of the process to develop the SSP for Nigeria, the NCAA is hosting the ICAO-West and Central Africa (WACAF) Regional Office of the African and Indian Ocean (AFI) Region Plan-state Safety Programme (SSP) for Assistant Mission to Nigeria and the event began Monday in Abuja.

“The document has gone through some of the processes that are required. We have sent out the document to stakeholders for input and we have feedback,” he said.

The DG, represented by the NCAA Director Special Duties, Mr. Horatius Egua, also said the NCAA has planned a few more programmes like the physical stakeholders meeting in April 2025, and an SMS workshop for chief executives because the SSP will not succeed if the CEOs in the aviation industry are not partners’.

He further stressed that with technical support from WACAF-ICAO, it will help the NCAA bridge gaps that may not have been covered, adding that the technical mission programme will also help the Authority fast-track the implementation of the SSP programme.

Similarly, the National Coordinator SSP and the General Manager, Air Operator Certification and Surveillance, NCAA, Dr. Iteke Ifeanyi Chukwunomso,  maintained that the SSP is an integration of safety activities and safety requirements.

Chukwunomso added: “It’s not that we have not been doing that but now we are going to be more proactive and predictive because we don’t need to wait till an accident happens.”

Oyetola Laments Nigeria’s 2% Contribution to Global Fleet /2025/03/18/oyetola-laments-nigerias-2-contribution-to-global-fleet/ /2025/03/18/oyetola-laments-nigerias-2-contribution-to-global-fleet/#comments Tue, 18 Mar 2025 03:02:35 +0000 /?p=1066227

•As FG moves to reduce emissions from shipping industry

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday lamented that Nigeria contribution to the global fleet was below two per cent and as such the country’s dependency on imports from other parts of the world makes Revised Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction to near-zero emissions for the shipping sector. He described this as an important debate that Nigeria must not shy away from.

This was even as he noted that the federal government was championing the course of shipping decarbonisation as means to reduce emissions in the African maritime industry to improve the competitiveness of the continent’s shipping routes.

Oyetola, while declaring open “Africa Strategic Summit on Shipping Decarbonisation,” in Abuja, said the global shipping industry was at a pivotal juncture as the International Maritime Organisation (IMQ) and was set to finalise and adopt the policy framework on the Revised Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction Strategy and the Basket of Midterm Measures by this autumn.

He said the progression of negotiations and research work done so far suggested that Africa along with most developing countries would be mostly impacted due to the transport cost increase as result of the energy transition to near-zero and zero emissions for shipping sector.

According to him, “As a coastal continent with 38 coastal nations, we stand a chance to explore opportunities that this energy transition offers our region by engaging the Global North to partner with Africa to utilise the need to develop our ports as a launch pad for catalysing the industrialisation of Africa.

“We must carefully develop meaningful discussions and partnership that does not set us back to extractive partnerships but a respectful approach to building our region and strengthening our position in the world.

“This will not come easy, and that is the essence of this summit. This event is one of many intended to unify our efforts towards a greater Africa.”

Oyetola added: “You may wish to know that Africa’s maritime sector is uniquely positioned to leverage its strategic geographic advantage, renewable energy potential, and growing port infrastructure to become a global leader in green shipping.

“However, this requires efforts from all stakeholders, be it as public and private sector players and/or development partners to align investments with sustainability and economic growth.

“Decarbonising the shipping industry must be pursued in a manner that is just and equitable, ensuring that no African nation is left behind. “Shipping decarbonisation also goes beyond ships, it touches various sectors, such as transport, environment, climate change, trade and investment, to mention a few.”

According to him, “while we recognise the need for ambitious climate action, we must also acknowledge the challenges faced by developing economies, including access to technology and capital, energy poverty, inefficient food systems, of which food insecurity is chief, as well as capacity building amongst others.

“The principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities must be upheld as we navigate this transition.”

Speaking further, the Minister said, “we gather not just to discuss challenges, but to forge solutions that will propel Africa towards a sustainable and prosperous blue economy.

“This summit is a platform for Africa to solidify its position and advocate for policy mechanisms that ensure fair revenue distribution from global decarbonisation measures.

“Without the generation of funds through a policy architecture underpinned by justice and equity, Africa faces a dire future that may set the region back decade fiscally and environmentally.”

Similarly, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, noted that Shipping Decarbonisation refers to the efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the shipping industry, which is a significant contributor to global emissions.

“The shipping industry accounts for approximately three percent of global GHG emissions contributing to climate change.

“The environmental concerns arising from these emissions have created a sense of urgency, driving the world to focus on shipping decarbonisation —and Africa must not be left behind,” he stated.

Mebereola further explained that decarbonisation supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action).

In his contribution, the Liberian Representative to IMO, Dr. Harry Conway said, “you cannot trade without using a vessel. Eighty percent of global trade is by sea, and Africa is 90 percent dependent on sea borne trade,” urging African countries to be part of the decision making body at the IMO in order have their needs heard.

•As Keyamo receives Jamaica Ambassador

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has welcomed the proposals of the Jamaican Ambassador to Nigeria to start the BASA arrangement between the two nations.

Keyamo noted he was delighted to start the BASA arrangements, adding that to ensure a swift resolution, he will set up a committee to expedite the process.

The minister made the disclosure when he welcomed the Jamaican Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Lincoln Downer, and his Consular, His Excellency, Andre Hibbert, to his office in Abuja for a significant diplomatic engagement.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, Wednesday in Abuja, Keyamo said he is further committed to visiting Jamaica if necessary, stating he would be willing to travel to Jamaica to finalise and sign the BASA agreement in person and expressed his eagerness to take the next steps.

Earlier, Ambassador Downer, in his address, expressed his deep appreciation for Nigeria, revealing an intriguing discovery from his four months as the Jamaican envoy to Nigeria.

According to Downer, “I have since discovered that Nigeria might be my ancestral home after all. This personal revelation set the tone for a productive discussion on strengthening the ties between the two nations, particularly in the areas of air services, trade, and investment.”

The Ambassador highlighted the importance of improving and enhancing bilateral relations, including reviewing the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

He said: “I have been tasked by my country to review and improve on the diplomatic engagements between Jamaica and Nigeria, especially concerning air services.”

The Jamaican Ambassador also shared the growing interest in Nigerian culture, particularly Afrobeat music and Nollywood films, which are trending in Jamaica.

He noted this cultural exchange further reinforces the need for enhanced diplomatic and air connectivity, adding: “There is no reason why we should not have a direct flight between our countries. Nigerians love Jamaica, and there is a rising demand for Jamaican spices in Nigeria.”

A key area of focus during the meeting was the matter of air travel and connectivity. Ambassador Downer disclosed that Jamaica currently lacks a national carrier, relying on neighboring Trinidad and Tobago for air transport.

He proposed the idea of combining the BASA between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago to address the air services gap, underscoring the increasing demand for travel from Nigeria to Jamaica.

This meeting marks a significant step towards reinforcing the bilateral ties between Jamaica and Nigeria and sets the stage for future collaboration in the aviation, trade, and cultural sector.

Ignatius Aguowo: Redefining Philanthropy /2025/03/11/ignatius-aguowo-redefining-philanthropy/ /2025/03/11/ignatius-aguowo-redefining-philanthropy/#respond Mon, 10 Mar 2025 23:26:00 +0000 /?p=1064478

Mother Teresa once said, “It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” Philanthropy is one of the greatest services to humanity, and there is no definition of a successful life that does not include service to others.

Unfortunately, our society is fast losing the essence of genuine philanthropy, which has become an act of showmanship or leverage for those seeking political power.

However, Ignatius Onyeka Aguowo, an Anambra-born businessman from Nibo, has stepped up to redefine and reinvent philanthropy. Born into a humble family, Ignatius’ childhood was marked by hardship and austerity. He recalls his mother mopping the wet floor in the middle of the night, as rain seeped through the thatched roof of their rustic home. This experience instilled in him a deep understanding of lack and a compassion to lighten the burden of others. Today, Ignatius is driven by a passion to give back to society, inspired by the love and resilience of his family.

Today, the IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation (IGAHAF), founded and solely funded by Ignatius Aguowo since 2020, is becoming the most impactful charity in Southeast Nigeria. The foundation is funding over 600 students in 13 states across the federation, rebuilding dilapidated educational infrastructures, paying huge hospital bills, and providing a better life for indigents.

IGAHA Foundation has plans to build international schools across the 36 states of the federation dedicated to the less privileged, construct community hospitals for indigents, and provide a sustainable welfare scheme for the very poor. The foundation transcends tribal, cultural, and religious boundaries, adhering to globally accepted standards for NGOs.

As Pablo Picasso said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift; the purpose of life is to give it away.” Ignatius Aguowo has indeed found his gift, and his selfless contributions to humanity will undoubtedly be remembered for generations to come.

Why FAAN Temporarily Closed MMIA Runway 18R/36L After 11-month Maintenance Shutdown /2025/03/04/why-faan-temporarily-closed-mmia-runway-18r-36l-after-11-month-maintenance-shutdown/ /2025/03/04/why-faan-temporarily-closed-mmia-runway-18r-36l-after-11-month-maintenance-shutdown/#respond Tue, 04 Mar 2025 02:01:03 +0000 /?p=1062021

•Closure scheduled for March 3-4

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

Imperative rehabilitation work was the reason offered by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for announcing temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The closure, scheduled for March 3 and 4, comes just two weeks after the runway was reopened following an 11-month maintenance shutdown.

In a memo dated February 28, FAAN’s Head of Operations, J.U. Nwosu, cited safety concerns, stating that construction equipment at the A2 Taxiway-link could pose a hazard to landing and departing aircraft.

The memo addressed to the Airport Manager and the Regional General Manager for the Southwest Region stressed the necessity of the closure to prevent operational risks.

During the closure, the shorter domestic runway, 18L/36R, will handle all flight operations. While this runway is functional, its capacity constraints may lead to potential delays for both domestic and international flights.

FAAN has directed technical departments to enhance security, inspect facilities, and enforce 24-hour surveillance to ensure smooth operations.

•Keyamo unveils 2025 seasonal climate prediction

•Predicts early rain in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, others

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, yesterday, in Abuja, unveiled the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

Keyamo, during the public presentation of the SCP document, revealed that the onset of rain was predicted to be delayed over the northern and central states of Plateau as well as part of Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa and Kwara.

Early onset was expected in southern States of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, and sections of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi.

“The rest of the country is predicted to have a normal onset,” he added.

The Aviation Minister said highlights of the 2025 SCP as with previous years, showed that there would be pre-onset rainfall activities that should not be confused with the actual onset of the rainy season.

He said: “Those engaged in rainfall agriculture and other-rainfall dependent activities in Nigeria are therefore advised to refer to the predicted onset dates in this publication or consult NiMet for proper guidance.”

The report added: “The rest of the country is predicted to have a normal onset earlier than long-term average end-of-rainy season is predicted over parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ekiti, and Ondo states.

“A delayed end of season is expected over parts of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue, Lagos, Kwara, Taraba, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Enugu states.

“The predicted length of rainy season in 2025 is expected to be mostly normal across the country.

“However, Borno and parts of Yobe states could experience shorter than normal length of season. Lagos, and Nasarawa States are likely to have longer than normal length of seasons in 2025.

“A normal to below-normal annual rainfall is anticipated in most parts of Nigeria compared to the long-term average.

“Parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos Abia, Akwa Ibom states, and the FCT are expected to have above-normal annual rainfall amounts.”

He further explained that high-intensity rainfall was expected in May and June, that may likely result in flash floods in the coastal cities. “During the April-May-June (AMJ) season, there is a likelihood of a severe dry spell of above 15 days after the establishment of rainfall in Oyo state (Saki, Iseyin, Ogbomosho, Atisbo, Orelope, Itesiwaju, Olorunsogo, Kajola, Iwajowa and Ori Ire).

“Moderate dry spell that may last up to 15 days is likely to occur in Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states in the south.

“However, for the northern states, a severe dry spell that may last up to 21 days is predicted for the June-July-August (JJA) season of 2025.

“The Little Dry Season (LDS), also known as ‘August Break’ is predicted to begin by late July and would be severe only in parts of Lagos and Ogun states. The number of days with little or no rainfall will range between 27 to 40 days

“Moderate LDS effect is expected over parts of Ogun, Oyo, and Ekiti states. Osun, Oyo, Kwara, and parts of Ondo north are likely to experience light or mild Little Dry Season. Temperatures are expected to be generally above the long-term average across the country.

“Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are predicted to be warmer than the long-term average over most parts of the country in January, February, March, and May 2025.”

“However, April day and nighttime temperatures are predicted to be generally cooler than normal, while warmer than normal temperatures are likely over most of the northern states. Details of the Prediction and the socioeconomic implications for various sectors of our national economy are contained in the document.”

Continuing, Keyamo stated that in line with the United Nations Early Warnings for All Initiative, the prediction serves as an early warning tool to stakeholders, governments at all levels, and the general public for timely preparedness against potential hazards associated with surplus or deficit rains, floods, and high or low temperatures, as well as dry spells in parts of the country, among others.

NCAA Suspends Max Air Operations for 3 Months After Emergency Landing in Kano /2025/01/30/ncaa-suspends-max-air-operations-for-3-months-after-emergency-landing-in-kano/ /2025/01/30/ncaa-suspends-max-air-operations-for-3-months-after-emergency-landing-in-kano/#comments Thu, 30 Jan 2025 03:47:22 +0000 /?p=1052169

•To conduct air safety audit on airline, says resumption dependent on satisfactory audit completion

Kasim Sumaina in Abuja and Ahmad Sorondinki in Kano

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended Max Air from domestic operations following the incident involving its B734 aircraft with registration marks 5N-MBD, over an emergency landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano on Tuesday, 28th, January 2025, at about 2251 hours.

NCAA, which also hinted at plans to conduct a thorough safety and economic audit on the airline, stated that the suspension would start from midnight, 31st January, 2025, to allow for an internal appraisal of its operations by its management.

Statutorily, the NCAA noted that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has already initiated an investigation into the occurrence.

Director, Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, NCAA, Mr. Michael Achimugu, disclosed that the agency would provide the required support to the NSIB in this regard.

Achimugu, in a statement yesterday, explained that, “It must be stated that the specific cause(s) of this incident can only be established after the NSIB has conducted its investigation.

“It is instructive to note that the NCAA had commenced organisational risk profiles for each scheduled operator, including Max Air, which is nearing its conclusion.

“However, as a result of this incident, Max Air is suspending its domestic flight operations for three months with effect from midnight, 31st January 2025, to allow for an internal appraisal of its operations by its management.

“During this 3-month period, the NCAA will conduct a thorough safety and economic audit on Max Air.

“The safety audit will entail a re-inspection of Max Air’s organisation, procedures, personnel and aircraft as specified by Part 1.3.3.3(b) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, while the economic audit will critically examine the financial health of the airline to guarantee its capability to sustain safe flight operations.

“The resumption of Max Air’s domestic flight operations will be predicated on the satisfactory completion of this audit.

“The NCAA is aware of the inconvenience this action may cause intending passengers of Max Air. However; the safety and well-being of passengers is paramount.

“Thus, NCAA appeals for patience and understanding while it ensures the protection of passenger rights.”

No fewer than 59 passengers had escaped death as a Max Air aircraft with registration number 5N-MBD, B733 crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, (MAKIA) on Tuesday night( 10.19 pm).

The incident occurred when the aircraft with the passengers alongside six crew members arrived MAKIA from Lagos State.

According to the narration of one of the passengers, who craved anonymity, one of the plane’s front tyres had busted into flames when the pilot tried to land at the airport.

“Immediately the tyre of the aircraft burst into flame, smoke enveloped inside the aircraft and we had to alight through the emergency exit door.

“As we were coming out of the aircraft, the fire servicemen were already spraying the plane with water to contain the flame,” he said.

While confirming the incident at the airport, Kano Station Manager of Max Air, Malam Bello Ramalan, said all the passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.

He, therefore, stated that, “I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and express my gratitude to God for the safety of everyone on board. Our primary concern is always the safety of our passengers and crew.

“At Max Air, safety is our top priority, and we take all necessary measures to ensure the well-being of our passengers and crew. We will continue to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident and implement any necessary corrective actions.”

In the meantime, normalcy has returned to MAKIA after the incident. The runway was opened at 08:00hrs yesterday, after cleaning the premises and normal flight operations have resumed at the airport.
