Advancing Financial Efficiency for SMEs in Global Economy Through AI and Predictive Analytics /2026/04/14/advancing-financial-efficiency-for-smes-in-global-economy-through-ai-and-predictive-analytics/ /2026/04/14/advancing-financial-efficiency-for-smes-in-global-economy-through-ai-and-predictive-analytics/#respond Mon, 13 Apr 2026 23:00:00 +0000 /?p=1194397

Ayodeji Ake

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for over 96 per cent of businesses in Nigeria, contributing approximately 48 per cent to GDP, and employing nearly 84 per cent of the workforce. Globally, SMEs represent more than 90 per cent of businesses and contribute significantly to employment and economic development across emerging and developed markets.

Despite this, many SMEs face persistent challenges in financial forecasting, risk management, and operational resilience, particularly in an increasingly volatile and interconnected global economy.

In Nigeria, these challenges are compounded by inflationary pressures, exchange rate volatility, limited access to credit, and infrastructure constraints. As global markets become more competitive and digitally driven, the need for smarter, data-driven financial systems is urgent.

Addressing these challenges is at the core of the groundbreaking study titled “Data-Driven Financial Optimization for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): A Framework to Improve Efficiency and Resilience in Local Economies,” led by Monisola Beauty Ayankoya, a data science and analytics professional with a Master’s degree in Statistics and Analytics from the University of Arkansas. Monisola’s work is rooted in improving financial systems for SMEs while aligning with broader global economic realities.

Her research focuses on how artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics can be leveraged to enhance financial decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and build resilience for SMEs operating in both local and international markets.

A member of several respected organizations, including the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Fintech Association of Nigeria (FINTECH NGR), Association of Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and INFORMS, Monisola continues to play a pivotal role in advancing data-driven innovation across industries.

As part of her research, she is developing AI-powered frameworks designed to help SMEs optimize financial forecasting, reduce inefficiencies in planning, and strengthen long-term operational performance. For Nigerian and global SMEs, these solutions are impactful in navigating uncertainty, improving cash flow management, and making informed strategic decisions. At a global level, such frameworks position SMEs to compete more effectively in cross-border markets and adapt to rapidly evolving economic conditions.

Her AI-driven predictive modeling framework has already demonstrated a 30 per cent improvement in financial forecasting accuracy and a 25 per cent reduction in planning errors. These outcomes are significant for Nigerian SMEs, many of which operate with limited financial visibility, as well as for SMEs globally that require precision and agility to remain competitive in complex market environments.

Beyond forecasting, Monisola Beauty Ayankoya’s research is advancing the adoption of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in financial decision-making. One of the major barriers to AI adoption worldwide is the lack of transparency in automated systems used for credit scoring, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance.

Her work focuses on making AI models transparent, interpretable, and trustworthy, ensuring that both financial institutions and SMEs can understand and rely on AI-driven decisions. In Nigeria, this is particularly important for improving access to finance and building trust in digital financial services.

Globally, it aligns with increasing regulatory expectations around ethical AI, accountability, and fairness in financial systems.
The broader impact of this research extends beyond individual businesses.

By enabling SMEs to optimize operations and strengthen decision-making, Monisola’s work directly contributes to economic growth, job creation, and financial inclusion in Nigeria, while also supporting the resilience and competitiveness of SMEs in the global economy. As the world continues to experience economic shifts, technological disruption, and increasing interconnectedness, empowering SMEs with advanced financial tools is critical.

Monisola’s research bridges the gap between local challenges and global opportunities, providing scalable solutions that can be adapted across different markets.

Monisola Beauty Ayankoya’s work represents a futuristic approach to SME development, one that leverages AI to drive efficiency, transparency, and resilience. By equipping Nigerian SMEs with the tools to thrive locally and compete globally, her contributions are helping to shape a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable global economy.

How Female Drummer Livia Broke Stereotypes to Become a Music Force /2025/12/31/how-female-drummer-livia-broke-stereotypes-to-become-a-music-force/ /2025/12/31/how-female-drummer-livia-broke-stereotypes-to-become-a-music-force/#respond Tue, 30 Dec 2025 23:00:00 +0000 /?p=1161750

For rising singer, songwriter, and producer Livia, real name AGU Oluchi Olivia, music is not just a career, it is a calling forged in defiance. At just seven years old, she challenged a deeply held belief in her primary school: that only boys could play musical instruments.

“I fell in love with the rhythms of the percussions,” Livia told us in an exclusive interview. “But I was told ‘only boys play instruments.’ I didn’t accept that.”
She didn’t just join the all-male school band; through relentless practice, she became its best drummer. That early victory didn’t just earn her respect, it paved the way for other girls in her school to pick up an instrument. It also set the tone for a career built on skill, versatility, and self-sufficiency.

FROM DRUMS TO STUDIO BOARDS

Her musical appetite only grew in secondary school, where she learned to play the guitar, keyboard, clarinet, and saxophone. The guitar became her favourite companion for early stage performances.

Her first studio experience came in Senior Secondary 1 (SS1), recording a farewell song for graduating seniors. That moment sparked a new ambition: music production. “I wanted to understand how to build a song from the ground up,” she said.
While studying at university, she put that knowledge to work. In 2019, she released her debut single “POCO,” which gained immediate traction on campus and received airplay on Inspiration 92.3 FM. She followed up in 2021 with “TOUCH & FOLLOW,” which expanded her public profile and streaming numbers.

Crucially, Livia moved from being just a vocalist to being her own producer. “I started recording and producing for myself,” she noted. This hands-on approach has defined her artistic identity.

GEARING UP FOR DEBUT EP AND BEYOND

LIVIA’s first extended play (EP), titled Rhythms and Soul, is powerful. She describes the project as containing “fresh and different versions of myself,” reflecting her experiences as a young woman navigating life and the music industry.

For Livia, the drive to create stems from a deep-seated belief in music’s transformative power. “The soothing melody and reverberation of beats continually strikes a chord in my heart,” she shared. “To make the world see through my looking glass on how one song, one tone, one beat, can change your life, that’s why I became an artiste.”

With her debut EP on the horizon, Livia represents a new wave of Nigerian female artists who are not just singers but accomplished musicians and producers. Her journey from the primary school bandroom to the production studio underscores a clear message: she is in full control of her sound.
“My musical journey is just beginning,” she said. “I look forward to more exciting and life-changing projects to come.”

Building Smarter, Not Harder: The AI Revolution in the Construction Industry and Cost Control Environment. /2025/12/20/building-smarter-not-harder-the-ai-revolution-in-the-construction-industry-and-cost-control-environment/ /2025/12/20/building-smarter-not-harder-the-ai-revolution-in-the-construction-industry-and-cost-control-environment/#respond Fri, 19 Dec 2025 23:56:00 +0000 /?p=1158714

In an exclusive conversation, Ayodeji Ake quizzed Adebayo Oyenubi FNIQS, MRICS, PQS, a Cost & Commercial Management practitioner currently working with a Fortune 500 corporation in the United States. They spoke about the significant transformation and the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

To start, the phrase “Building Smarter, Not Harder” is catchy, but what does it really mean for Construction professionals in Nigeria and quantity surveyors in Nigeria?

‘Building Smarter, Not Harder’ for Construction professionals means “Adopting Lean Construction Principles(minimizing waste and improving processes), enhancing technology(use of digital tools and platforms, BIM, Drones—IoT sensors, Improving Planning & Collaboration, Prioritizing Quality and sustainability. For the Nigerian Quantity Surveyor, it is fundamentally about a paradigm shift from traditional, often manual, and reactive practices to a data-driven, proactive, and efficient workflow. It means leveraging Artificial Intelligence to automate tedious tasks, such as elemental cost measurement and data entry, freeing professionals to focus on high-value activities, including complex cost analysis, risk management, and strategic decision-making. In a market often plagued by project delays and cost overruns, “smarter” means using predictive analytics to foresee challenges before they hit the site, thereby optimizing resource management and enhancing profitability.

How would you describe the current level of AI integration within Nigeria’s construction industry, and how does this compare to global trends you’ve observed?

AI integration in Nigeria is still in its nascent stages, particularly when compared to highly digitalized global markets in North America or Europe, where AI and Building Information Modelling (BIM) are more established. While many Nigerian firms have adopted basic computer usage and some software for estimation, core AI applications remain limited. However, there is a growing interest and recognition of its potential. Interestingly, a recent survey indicated that Nigerian engineers were among the most frequent daily users of AI globally for tasks such as design work, suggesting an eagerness to adopt new technology once it is available. The gap lies in the depth of integration and the availability of sophisticated local infrastructure.

Many professionals fear AI will replace human roles. As a Quantity Surveyor with membership across several professional organizations, what is your message to the profession regarding job displacement versus role transformation?

My message is clear: AI is a powerful enhancement tool, not a replacement. I was privileged to speak at the NIQS Osun State Investiture, and I made that clear in my statement. AI is intended to take over repetitive tasks, not professional judgment. The human element—ethical decision-making, negotiation skills, site experience, and stakeholder collaboration—remains irreplaceable. The profession is transforming, and the key to remaining relevant is upskilling. We must embrace digital literacy and data science skills. Quantity Surveyors who adapt will evolve into “BIM Managers” or “AI integration specialists,” managing digital workflows and providing more accurate, data-backed advice than ever before. Those who do not will become irrelevant and outdated. This we must understand is the most consistent thing in life- change.

Can you provide specific, real-world examples of how AI can be used today on Nigerian construction sites to achieve better cost control and efficiency?

While widespread integrated adoption is limited, pilot projects and some leading firms are exploring AI in niche areas. Examples include:

Automated Estimation: Using machine learning to analyze past project data and historical costs to generate more accurate initial cost estimates, reducing human error. This proactive approach helps avoid budget overruns caused by sudden price hikes and minimizes project delays due to supply chain snags, a frequent issue in Nigeria. Instead of manual, error-prone measurements from paper blueprints, Quantity Surveyors (QS) use AI-powered software (such as STACK, Togal.AI, Planswift, and Cost X) to automatically extract quantities from digital designs and Building Information Models (BIM). This dramatically speeds up the pre-construction phase, improves estimate accuracy, and frees up QS professionals for more strategic, value-added tasks, reducing labor costs associated with manual processes.

Predictive Risk Analytics: AI models (e.g., Autodesk Construction) can analyze thousands of data points to predict potential delays or cost overruns due to local supply chain volatility, enabling cost managers to intervene proactively. This helps with effective resource allocation and enables proactive adjustments to project plans, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, a major factor in controlling costs.

Material Management Optimization: AI can help forecast material needs more accurately, minimizing waste, a significant challenge in Nigeria, and optimizing logistics. Specifics like Kojo, Conwize, Oracle, etc.

What specific AI tools are proving most effective in mitigating traditional Nigerian construction challenges like material wastage and project delays?

To mitigate material waste, AI tools reduce it primarily through precise estimation and optimized inventory management, thereby preventing the traditional Nigerian challenge of over-ordering materials. Togal.AI, PlanSwift, Cost X, onscreen take off etc: These automated takeoff tools digitize measurements from blueprints with up to 98 per cent accuracy. This eliminates manual estimation errors that frequently lead to surplus material waste on Nigerian sites. However, there must be human oversight. Zoho Inventory and  Inflow: Identified as frequently used in regions like Lagos, these AI-enhanced inventory tools automate stock tracking and demand forecasting to prevent material deterioration from prolonged on-site storage. Generative Design (e.g., Autodesk Forma, Autodesk Fusion 360, Market, Testfit): These tools optimize architectural layouts during the design phase to minimize the actual quantity of raw materials needed for structural integrity. These can be used for Site planning, Layout optimization, Structural design, Façade design just to mention a few. Project delays in Nigeria, often caused by poor scheduling or unforeseen risks, are being mitigated through predictive analytics and real-time site monitoring.  ALICE Technologies: This scheduling engine simulates thousands of “what-if” scenarios to find the most efficient path. If a delay occurs—such as a labor strike or material shortage—it can instantly generate a new optimized schedule to recover lost time. Buildots and OpenSpace: These tools use 360-degree cameras (often mounted on hard hats) to capture site progress. The AI compares actual progress against BIM models, automatically flagging discrepancies or work falling behind schedule. nPlan: Using historical data from millions of past schedules, nPlan predicts which specific tasks are most prone to delays, allowing managers to allocate resources proactively. Drones Deploy automate high-cost site surveying, providing real-time data for progress monitoring and identifying bottlenecks that manual inspections might miss.  Strategic Integration Tools

For broader operational efficiency, Nigerian firms are adopting comprehensive platforms that unify these AI capabilities.  Procore (with AI Copilot): Used by larger enterprises to automate document reviews (RFIs and submittals) and provide predictive risk alerts for safety and scheduling.

Zepth: Offers AI-driven dashboards specifically for risk, cost, and quality insights, helping managers maintain financial control and prevent budget-driven delays. Autodesk Construction Cloud: Integrates AI for clash detection, identifying design conflicts early to avoid the costly rework and delays common in complex Nigerian infrastructure projects

While adoption faces challenges like cost and skills gaps in Nigeria, these tools offer significant boosts to efficiency and project completion.

Corruption and lack of transparency are historic issues in Nigeria’s construction sector. How can AI-powered systems, particularly in procurement and project monitoring, enhance accountability and reduce financial leakages?

AI offers a powerful mechanism for transparency and accountability.

Automated Auditing: AI systems can track every transaction and procurement decision, instantly flagging anomalies or deviations from standard procedures, making financial leakage harder to conceal. Transparent Procurement: Implementing smart contracts, which are self-executing agreements on a blockchain platform, can automate payments upon verifiable completion of work stages, removing discretionary human intervention that often fuels corruption. Real-time Monitoring: AI integrated with site monitoring tools provides an unbiased, continuous record of project progress, which can be shared with all stakeholders, improving trust and ensuring projects align with initial budgets.

What are the primary barriers hindering the broader adoption of AI in the Nigerian construction industry?

The barriers are multifaceted: High Initial Cost: The capital required for advanced hardware (like high-performance GPUs) and software is a major deterrent for many local firms, especially SMEs.

Inadequate Infrastructure: Unreliable power supply and inconsistent internet connectivity significantly disrupt the continuous operation and data processing required by AI systems.

Talent Shortages: There is a notable gap in professionals with the requisite AI and data science skills, a challenge exacerbated by the ‘brain drain’.

Cultural Resistance: A lingering resistance to technology by some stakeholders and the fear of job losses present a cultural barrier that needs addressing through awareness and education.

Nigeria has unique challenges, such as unreliable power supply and a varying digital infrastructure. How can AI solutions be tailored to thrive despite these local limitations?

Solutions need to be robust and localized. We must focus on:

Cloud-Based Solutions with Offline Capability: Utilizing cloud services for heavy processing (once connectivity allows) but ensuring core functionalities can run offline during power outages.

Localized Data Repositories: Developing in-house or industry-wide localized databases to reduce reliance on international cloud services, addressing both connectivity and data security concerns. Simplified User Interfaces: AI tools should be designed with simple, intuitive interfaces that minimize the need for on-site IT specialists.

Data is crucial for training AI algorithms. Do you think there is a concerted effort within the Nigerian industry to create high-quality, standardized local cost databases necessary for effective AI implementation?

Efforts have been ongoing for years to establish a formidable construction cost data bank in Nigeria, primarily through initiatives by the NIQS (Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors). I still remember the days when cost books were published for each state of the federation. However, widespread standardization remains a challenge due to the industry’s fragmentation and the lack of a universal data-sharing culture. The current National AI Strategy encourages digitization across sectors to generate comprehensive datasets, which I hope will improve data availability and quality for future AI training.

What specific initiatives do you think the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and other professional bodies in Nigeria undertake to train their members and bridge the digital skill gap?

While I may not be very elaborate about other professional bodies, I can speak about the NIQS, and I believe the NIQS recognizes the urgency of this transition. This is exemplified in the following programs sponsored by NIQS. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programs: The institute regularly organizes mandatory CPD activities, lectures, and seminars that increasingly cover digital technologies, BIM, and AI applications to enhance competence.

Collaboration: The NIQS FCT Chapter, for instance, has collaborated with agencies like NITDA to host workshops on digital transformation, including AI and blockchain.

Advocacy for Education: We advocate for the integration of modern digital tools and AI literacy into university curricula to prepare the next generation of quantity surveyors. I am aware that the Stakeholder Validation workshop with the National Universities Commission in November 2025 is one example. The NIQS FCT Chapter Workshop in September of 2025 etc.

The professional boundaries between quantity surveyors and other professionals sometimes blur in Nigeria.

How can leveraging AI tools help define and solidify the Quantity Surveyor’s essential role in the digital age?

AI helps solidify our role as the undisputed experts in construction economics. By utilizing AI for precise cost modelling, predictive analysis, and value engineering, Quantity Surveyors can provide insights that other professionals simply cannot match manually. We become the “architects of change” in the built environment, using data analytics to inform design, manage costs, and enhance overall project viability, reinforcing our unique and critical function.

Are there any conversations at the regulatory or government level about creating a national framework or policy to guide the ethical and effective use of AI in Nigerian construction?

Yes, the conversation is active. Nigeria does not yet have a single law specifically regulating AI in construction, but the government has launched initiatives such as the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR). A comprehensive National AI Strategy has been unveiled, and a proposed AI Bill is in the works, which aims to align with the existing Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 to ensure data privacy, transparency, and accountability in AI use. This shows commitment to a structured, ethical adoption of AI.

In five years, what do you predict the average Quantity Surveying practice in Nigeria will look like with AI integration?

In five years, I foresee the average sophisticated Nigerian practice being significantly more efficient and tech-enabled. They will be cloud-connected, leveraging BIM and AI for most routine tasks. The reliance on manual methods will diminish, replaced by real-time data input from sites via mobile devices and potentially IoT. QS professionals will be more integrated into multi-disciplinary digital teams, offering faster, more accurate preliminary cost advice and becoming essential risk managers rather than just historical cost counters.

For young construction professionals and students in Nigeria, what key skills should they focus on developing today to remain relevant in this AI-driven future?

They must prioritize a blend of traditional expertise and digital proficiency.

Digital Literacy: Proficiency in BIM software, data analytics platforms, and general AI tools is non-negotiable.

Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: AI provides the data, but humans must interpret it and solve complex, non-standard problems.

Communication and Collaboration: Working within digital ecosystems requires seamless communication across various professional teams.

Adaptability: Technology will continue to evolve, so a mindset of lifelong learning is essential.

Finally, what is the most critical action the Nigerian construction industry needs to take right now to fully harness the potential of AI for sustainable development and cost efficiency?

The most important action is to prioritize collaborative investment in robust digital infrastructure and capacity building. This requires a partnership among the …

Aayo: How Lagos Hustle and Yoruba Roots Shape a New Afrobeats Voice /2025/12/14/aayo-how-lagos-hustle-and-yoruba-roots-shape-a-new-afrobeats-voice/ /2025/12/14/aayo-how-lagos-hustle-and-yoruba-roots-shape-a-new-afrobeats-voice/#respond Sun, 14 Dec 2025 01:38:00 +0000 /?p=1156986

Emerging from Lagos, a city known for its relentless pace and creative intensity, Ayodeji Akinde represents a generation of artists shaped by both cultural depth and survival instincts. As the youngest in a large family, he grew up observing resilience early, an attribute that now defines his artistic journey.

Music entered his life through the Cherubim and Seraphim church, where sound and spirituality are inseparable. Singing in choirs, rehearsing for choreographed church concerts, and playing percussion instruments formed his earliest musical training. These experiences didn’t just teach him technique; they instilled discipline and reverence for sound.

In 2016, Aayo relocated to the United States, a move that exposed him to broader musical influences while sharpening his sense of identity. Distance from home became clarity rather than confusion. It was during this period that he recognised music as more than passion—it was purpose.

By 2018, that realisation materialised into action with the release of his first single. The studio experience was transformative. For the first time, his ideas translated into professionally produced sound, confirming his belief that growth was inevitable if he stayed committed.

Musically, Aayo stands at an intersection. While Afrobeats anchors his sound, his work incorporates elements of trap, Afro-fusion, and contemporary global styles. Yet, his Yoruba heritage remains unmistakable. From rhythmic phrasing to storytelling, his cultural background is woven into every performance.

Lagos also gifted him something less musical but equally important: hustle. Navigating the industry independently meant managing logistics, financing projects, and overcoming unexpected setbacks. One incident involving a delayed video shoot due to a vehicle breakdown highlighted the vulnerability of working without a support system.

Rather than discouraging him, such moments strengthened his resolve to build a structured team and long-term vision. His songwriting now draws from lived experiences, aspirations, and deep reflection. Often beginning with melody, his creative process flows intuitively from sound to story.

Seyi Vibez Dominates Audiomack with Over 2.2 Billion Streams, Becomes Platform’s Most-Streamed African Artist /2025/12/14/seyi-vibez-dominates-audiomack-with-over-2-2-billion-streams-becomes-platforms-most-streamed-african-artist/ /2025/12/14/seyi-vibez-dominates-audiomack-with-over-2-2-billion-streams-becomes-platforms-most-streamed-african-artist/#respond Sun, 14 Dec 2025 01:36:00 +0000 /?p=1156983

Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez has cemented his position as Audiomack’s most-streamed African artist, surpassing 2.2 billion global streams on the platform. According to publicly available streaming data, Vibez currently ranks as the continent’s top performer and the platform’s second most-streamed artist globally, trailing only American rapper YoungBoy NBA. He edges ahead of fellow Nigerian superstars Asake, who became the first African artist to reach 2 billion streams on Audiomack, and Burna Boy, who currently sits at 1,967,293,305 streams as of December 13, 2025.

The foundation of Vibez’s dominance rests on a catalogue built for sustained engagement.
Projects like Billion Dollar Baby, NAHAMciaga, and Thy Kingdom Come have cultivated cycles
of listener loyalty, embedding themselves into daily routines across Nigeria and the diaspora. By the time Fuji Moto arrived on November 14, 2025, Audiomack’s ecosystem had already attuned itself to the artist’s distinct cadence.

The 14-track album represents both a cultural statement and a strategic pivot, merging Yoruba
traditionalism with contemporary production and international sonic appeal. Tracks such as
“How Are You,” “Mario Kart,” and “Pressure” showcase Vibez’s emotional range and expanding creative palette. The song “Pressure,” produced by Mally Mall, DIMA, and YX, blends mellow R&B with Afrobeats NotjustOk, revealing new dimensions to the artist’s versatility. The title
track “FUJI MOTO” has already surpassed 250 million streams, fueling one of 2025’s most
replayed releases.

Perhaps the album’s most significant validation comes through its production roster. American
producers Mally Mall and Dr. Luke contributed to tracks on Fuji Moto

AudiomackTurntablecharts, marking a notable collaboration between Nigerian street-pop and
established American hitmakers. The album also features collaborations with Nigerian trailblazer
Olamide and US rap artists French Montana, Trippie Redd, and NLE Choppa Audiomack,
underscoring Vibez’s expanding transatlantic appeal.

The streaming numbers tell a compelling story of sustained relevance. With over 2.2 billion
streams, Vibez has achieved the highest total for any Nigerian and African artist in Audiomack’s
history—a milestone reached while competing directly with continental heavyweights. His
success is driven by core tracks like “NAHAMciaga,” “Loseyi Professor,” and “FUJI MOTO,” which generate consistent daily playback across Africa and the diaspora. Under his influence, Fuji-infused street-pop has evolved into a fully realized, exportable genre with its own ecosystem and cultural currency.

Underlying Vibez’s music is a distinctive spiritual and cultural signature. Orisa consciousness,
Yoruba lineage, and Lagos street narratives flow through his lyrics, offering layered storytelling
that resonates as authentic and unfiltered. This combination of spiritual depth, melodic craft, and
street-rooted authenticity has cemented his growing global following and critical respect.
The 2.2 billion streams milestone marks more than personal achievement. The Fuji Moto era
signals a redefinition of Nigerian music’s global architecture. Seyi Vibez operates at the intersection of heritage and digital innovation, demonstrating that street-born artistry can achieve worldwide dominance without compromise. In 2025, he isn’t simply participating in the conversation about African music’s global expansion—he’s actively reshaping it, track by track, stream by stream.

The Christ Compassion to the Rural World (CCRW), an initiative of the Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Matthew Ashimolowo, has announced its 2025 annual mega crusade to hold in Portharcourt, Rivers State, at Adokiye Amiesimaka.

CCRW, A One-Week Revolutionary Crusade and Community Outreach, is a non-denominational crusade and community outreach set to bring the gospel of Christ to rural communities in ways that are relevant, relatable, and practical.

During a Press Conference held in Lagos recently to unveil the ‘Portharcourt This is Love Crusade’, scheduled for November 24th to 29th, 5:00 pm daily, the CCRW team also revealed it medical outreach to distributes over 500 million naira worth of medicines, 1130 surgeries, 100 doctors, 100 pharmacists, 50 nurses, 80,000 patients to be treated, and 25,000 kids to be dewormed.

As done in Ikorodu-Lagos and Ibadan-Oyo states in previous editions, the CCRW will also be distributing relief to Port Harcourt residents – 150,000 bags of rice, 150,000 bags of beans, 150,000 bags of garri, 100,000 packs of rice, 20,000 bottles of oil, 170,000 packs of clothes, among other goodies.

Confirming preparations for the Mega crusade, Ashimolowo revealed the medical process is ongoing, the relief materials are already in the warehouse, and transportation has been taken care of- 154 buses to convey people from the rural areas to the venue.

“Even though it was looking terrible and like it wasn’t going to happen, I kept telling them this is where I heard from God. And the first time we went to Port-au-Prince, it was also something we could tell them, that we know that God sent us to Port-au-Prince for such a time as this, there will be peace in the land, and things are meant to work out.

“We’ve done what we can do as humans. We’ve been getting ready. All the materials, as you can see, are already in the storehouse. The Bible says not all men have faith. So during the night crusades, we believe in God for miracles, healings, and deliverances. But those who don’t start the miracle, they’ll get the medicine.

“So we are preparing medicines from the whole truckload. I’m talking about a 20- to 30-ton truckload of medicine to care for maybe up to 70,000 people in Rivers State. And also, we’ve already bought 25,000 dewormers for children.

“At the end of the six days Christ’s conversion to the rural world, our vision is, number one, out of these 1,130 people, I really am praying that we’ll be able to say 1,000 surgeries were done. We’re a Christian ministry. We desire to see souls saved. So we want 30,000 people to commit to Christ.

“We’re sending 154 buses to bring people. We’re even renting some of the Christian campgrounds not far from the stadium to help very poor and indigent people who will be brought from those rural areas so that they have a place to stay during the crusade, so they can collect everything we have for them, wait for their medicals, and then be transported back,” he said.

The Pastor commended the Governor of Rivers State, Similayi Fubara, for the welcome in the state and also his support for the mega crusade.

MC Dammy Set for ‘Owambe 2.0: Faaji Repete’ /2025/11/12/mc-dammy-set-for-owambe-2-0-faaji-repete/ /2025/11/12/mc-dammy-set-for-owambe-2-0-faaji-repete/#respond Tue, 11 Nov 2025 23:07:00 +0000 /?p=1144198

Popular wedding MC and events compere , Adedamola Oni, better known as MC Dammy, is set to host the second edition of his cultural showcase, “Owambe 2.0: Faaji Repete,” on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event, endorsed by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, promises a night of comedy, live music, dance, and the vibrant energy synonymous with Yoruba celebrations.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the show, MC Dammy said he created it as a platform to preserve and elevate Yoruba party culture within Nigeria’s creative economy.

“I designed ‘MC Dammy Live Owambe 2.0: Faaji Repete’ as a structured cultural programme to document, professionalise, and scale Yoruba party culture,” he said. “After over a decade as a professional MC and event manager, I saw the need to curate owambe in a way that preserves our values and raises standards, not just entertains.”

The first edition, held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, in 2024, received wide commendation for its creativity and organisation. However, Mc Dammy revealed that putting it together came with its own challenges.

“Securing sponsorship for the first edition was the hardest part,” he noted. “We ran a lean operation and relied on goodwill while maintaining professional standards. That experience helped us build better systems for this edition—structured budgets, vendor agreements, safety plans, and a more defined content flow.”

He added that Owambe 2.0 aims to give attendees a complete cultural experience that celebrates heritage and professionalism.

“From the red carpet showcasing native attire to comedy, live music, and cultural dance, I want guests to leave with pride in Yoruba heritage and an appreciation for the effort it takes to present culture at scale,” he said.

According to MC Dammy, the annual event is envisioned to grow into a major fixture on Nigeria’s entertainment calendar, spotlighting the richness of Yoruba tradition while appealing to a modern audience.

The Bukola Jaiyeola Initiative: Empowering Microentrepreneurs with Digital Skills /2025/11/11/the-bukola-jaiyeola-initiative-empowering-microentrepreneurs-with-digital-skills/ /2025/11/11/the-bukola-jaiyeola-initiative-empowering-microentrepreneurs-with-digital-skills/#respond Mon, 10 Nov 2025 23:19:00 +0000 /?p=1143854

The Ojapreneur Empowerment Project 2025, an initiative of The Bukola Jaiyeola Initiative, has been equiping local microentrepreneurs with essential digital skills to scale their businesses in a fast-evolving digital economy.

The core goal was to empower local marketers with practical knowledge and tools to improve their business visibility and productivity and also contribute to the broader economic development of individuals in Osun State, Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large.

Targeting 20 microentrepreneurs from local markets, the program delivered hands-on training using accessible digital platforms such as WhatsApp and AI (Artificial Intelligence)-powered tools like ChatGPT. These tools were carefully selected for their relevance, ease of use, and direct applicability to small business operations.

By simplifying digital literacy and focusing on practical implementation, the project successfully sparked innovation, increased digital confidence, and laid a strong foundation for economic inclusion among local entrepreneurs.

The Market Empowerment Initiative was born out of the growing need to bridge the digital gap among local traders. Despite having access to smartphones, many microentrepreneurs lacked the skills to effectively use them for business growth.

The Bukola Jaiyeola Initiative identified this need and launched a digital literacy campaign targeted at these overlooked but economically vital individuals. The project was specifically designed for microentrepreneurs who had not been exposed to formal digital education but were eager to grow.

With a target of 20 participants, the initiative set out to enhance digital capacity in the areas of customer service, product marketing, and online visibility. The intervention also sparks a broader conversation about economic empowerment through digital inclusion.

The project targeted 20 microentrepreneurs—a mix of both men and women—between the ages of 35 and 60, all actively engaged in trading at the New Market within Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

These individuals had been running their businesses for 2 to 10 years, demonstrating a level of consistency, experience, and readiness for growth. A key criterion for selection was owning a smartphone, ensuring participants had the minimum tools required to benefit from digital training. Their businesses ranged across various sectors, including foodstuff, fashion design, catering services, cosmetics, clothing, household goods, and daily essentials.

The Ojapreneur Empowerment fulfilled its mission of equipping microentrepreneurs with basic digital literacy. Beyond the immediate benefits, the project sparked digital curiosity and unlocked new business possibilities for the participants. It stands as a model for grassroots empowerment and demonstrates that digital inclusion is key to achieving economic transformation at the local and national levels.

Over 250m African Women to Benefit VivaFemini Wellness Packages /2025/10/31/over-250m-african-women-to-benefit-vivafemini-wellness-packages/ /2025/10/31/over-250m-african-women-to-benefit-vivafemini-wellness-packages/#respond Thu, 30 Oct 2025 23:36:00 +0000 /?p=1139990

 Ayodeji Ake

The mobile-first digital health platform, VivaFemini,  a user-friendly app built to revolutionise maternity, reproductive, and prenatal care for over 250 million African women, has revealed plans to launch its complete pocket-friendly women’s wellness package, which also includes a general health checker and a pregnancy risk detector to reduce the burden of maternal mortality in Nigeria and Africa.

Speaking during an exclusive radio interview recently, Felix Bomide, the Visioner of VivaFemini and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, explained that maternal mortality is preventable when women have access to information and clinical professionals who are ready to provide solutions.

He bragged that VivaFemini is not only providing wellness packages, but also has on board a good number of licensed health professionals who will offer live health-related consultations through VivaFemini’s telehealth platform.

He said: “Unfortunately, Nigeria still has one of the highest mortality rates as we speak. At VivaFemini, we understand that maternal mortality has different factors, and our platform has been built to provide solutions to the causes. Some of the causes include delayed access to care and early detection, especially for women in less urban areas. With VivaFemini, we have our early risk detection, symptom checkers and red flag alerts that connect our clinicians with our users within minutes, such that the concerns with early detection are mitigated.

“We also have a system of using our ambassador network, seamless referrals that directly addressed this delay, which led to an increase in MMR. We are bringing awareness and access closer to women. There is no point why a young lady dying because she lacked access to early detection of concerns about her pregnancy.

“We also have our Integrated Care Pathways (ICP), which includes guided care plans, appointment scheduling, automated reminders, lab integrations and continuous education. At VivaFemini, our health education is essential to ensure that all women are consistently guided throughout their pregnancy journey and their health outcomes when it comes to their pregnancy.

“At VivaFemini, our communication education tool is delivered in local languages – Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. Even in pidgin and when we start scaling up to other African countries, then we will be considering top local speaking languages to ensure that our health information library is culturally rich content that will reduce mortality rate in Nigeria and beyond.

“VivaFemini is an all-in-one ecosystem that has been designed for women from puberty to ageing. It includes tracking their health. For example, reproductive health – pregnancy tracking tools, fertility wellness symptoms checkers, which help them to track their health to reproductive, sexual and general health management. From the tracking system, they are able to access clinicians, licensed and vetted healthcare professionals, through our telehealth platform.

“Our professionals have gone through a series of screenings in the course of onboarding to ensure our users are safe in their hands and that they are providing the best care to our users. VivaFemini is a safe, anonymous, discreet, well-packaged community forum. Individuals can come onto the platform and engage with one another and ask questions to our experts. We want to ensure that women are safe when asking questions that pertain to them.

When asked about the uniqueness of VivaFemini, Bomide emphasised that while other apps use Artificial Intelligence (AI), VivaFemini is not AI but a wellness app with licensed health professionals who are ready to provide top-notch services to users.

“VivaFemini is an app that will be launched in the coming weeks. It has been designed for easy download, and our women can enjoy the products the way they want. On privacy, security and compliance, we are ensuring that VivaFemini will stick to our community rules, and also, we are not just here to provide general services, but their data is secure with us, and they are getting solutions.

“VivaFemini is not giving Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solutions; we have partnered with real licensed professionals. Not only doctors. We have nurses, midwives, therapists, clinical psychologists and a good number of professionals who have been vetted on the scope of practice to ensure that solutions are provided for our women.

“Unfortunately, some women struggle to get reliable information about their health. Yes, we are using AI, but our AI doesn’t provide solutions. It’s just a decision-guided tool that provides insight into the input of the users and prompts them to seek help from one of our vetted professionals. VivaFemini is not an AI tool; our women will be speaking to real licensed Healthcare professionals.

We are already partnering with some good healthcare facilities in Lagos and outside Lagos,” he said.

He urged women to join the VivaFemini waitlist ahead of the official launch.

“We want to ensure that we provide access to millions of women with preventive and primary healthcare support. To sign up and get set for our products, which will launch January 12, 2026, they should visit our website (www.vivafemini.org) and join our waitlist. For those looking forward to partnering with us, they can via our businessgrowth@vivafemini.org.”

In a move set to redefine how Africans connect financially with the world, fintech innovator Lucrestack has launched LupoFi, a platform built to make cross-border payments faster, transparent, and more inclusive. The new service opens seamless payment channels across continents, marking a major step toward bridging Africa’s financial access gap.

The platform enables users to send, receive, and settle payments seamlessly across countries including China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Canada, the United States, and Europe, with plans to expand into other emerging markets.

Speaking on the launch, Damilola Parkinson, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lucrestack, said the innovation marks the next phase of the company’s mission to make global financial connectivity more accessible.

“We have spent years building and refining infrastructure that powers cross-border payments for banks and fintechs,” Parkinson said. “LupoFi represents the evolution of that work, extending our enterprise-grade systems to individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses that need reliable access to the global economy.”

Africa’s growing digital economy has heightened the demand for trusted international payment systems. Many African businesses still face friction when sending or receiving funds due to compliance challenges and slow settlement times.

Lagos Launches Nigeria’s First Health Insurance Online Radio /2025/10/22/lagos-launches-nigerias-first-health-insurance-online-radio/ /2025/10/22/lagos-launches-nigerias-first-health-insurance-online-radio/#respond Wed, 22 Oct 2025 17:25:00 +0000 /?p=1137059

The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has unveiled Nigeria’s first Health Insurance Online Radio, ILERA EKO Spotlight, as part of efforts to expand public enlightenment on the State’s mandatory Social Health Insurance Scheme and drive universal health coverage among residents.

Declaring the radio platform open at the Y2025 Quarter 3 Media Parley held on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025 at the Agency’s headquarters in Alausa-Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to providing affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare for all Lagosians. She noted that the radio station would serve as a dynamic platform for continuous engagement and education on health insurance and wellness.

Dr. Zamba expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information and Strategy for its consistent partnership, describing it as instrumental to the Agency’s strong media visibility. She acknowledged the support received under the immediate past Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olumide Sogunle, and expressed optimism that the collaboration would thrive further under Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, the current Permanent Secretary.

She also commended the media for amplifying the Agency’s initiatives, particularly the Executive Order mandating social health insurance for all residents. “Your role in educating the public and promoting health-seeking behaviour has been invaluable,” Zamba said, while urging journalists to continue helping Lagos residents understand the benefits of enrolling in the ILERA EKO Scheme.

Addressing recent technical issues faced by enrollees, the Permanent Secretary apologized for temporary service disruptions due to an ongoing ICT upgrade. “We appeal for patience as we work towards completing the upgrade to improve user experience and service quality,” she assured.

Zamba explained that since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the Executive Order on mandatory Social Health Insurance in July 2024, LASHMA had intensified awareness through multilingual campaigns. She revealed that the Agency had collaborated with veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as “Oga Bello,” to produce nine radio docudramas, social media skits, and commercials in Yoruba and Pidgin to reach the informal sector.

According to her, the newly launched ILERA EKO Spotlight online radio will expand LASHMA’s digital footprint and enable residents to access credible health information daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. “This platform will serve as our voice to educate, inform, and connect directly with Lagosians across all communities,” she added.

The LASHMA boss also urged residents to embrace the ILERA EKO Telemedicine service, noting that many still preferred unnecessary hospital visits despite the convenience of virtual consultations. “Hospital visits are not always necessary. You can consult licensed doctors from your home or workplace through our Telehealth platform,” she said.

In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, represented by the Director of Social Media, Dr. Olajide Atansuyi, described the radio platform as a milestone in health communication. He said health was central to the socio-economic prosperity of Lagos, and the initiative would bridge the gap between government policy and the people.

“At the heart of every progressive society is a healthy citizenry,” Bajulaiye said. “The Spotlight Radio Programme will enlighten, engage, and empower Lagosians with practical health information that can transform lives.”

He emphasized the role of media as a bridge between government and citizens and pledged the Ministry’s continued support to amplify LASHMA’s initiatives. “Together, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more informed Lagos,” he affirmed.

Presenting details of the ILERA EKO Spotlight platform, LASHMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Adeyinka Gbemibade, said the online radio would serve as an interactive medium for health education, feedback, and support for residents. She added that its programme lineup would include health insurance updates, interviews, and special features for youth, women, men, and senior citizens.

Also speaking, Head of ILERA EKO Medical, Dr. Olugbenga Fadipe, highlighted the success of the ILERA EKO Telehealth and Virtual Booth Initiative launched in July 2024 by Governor Sanwo-Olu. He explained that the initiative integrates insurance enrollment with telehealth to expand access to affordable healthcare, especially among the informal sector.

Dr. Fadipe noted that the virtual booths located across major markets, toll-free lines, and mobile apps have significantly improved access for residents in underserved areas. “This service saves time, reduces hospital congestion, and provides mental health counseling, all at the touch of a button,” he said.

On the Executive Order implementation, LASHMA’s Technical Assistant, Dr. Nifesimi Akinnagbe, stated that full enforcement of the Order would begin in 2026. She outlined the progress made in sensitization, vulnerable group enrollment, and compliance among MDAs. “LASHMA’s goal is to ensure that every Lagos resident, regardless of status, has access to health insurance,” she emphasized.

Dr. Akinnagbe also revealed that the Agency had increased the Equity Fund to cover more vulnerable residents and launched the LASHMA AID initiative to guarantee emergency stabilization for uninsured patients.

Adding a human touch, Mr. Muyibi Adewale Abioun, Human Resources and Admin Manager of OWL Transportation and Logistics, shared a testimonial on his organization’s experience with ILERA EKO. He said his company registered over 100 staff, who now enjoy seamless access to quality healthcare. “My team members keep thanking me for introducing ILERA EKO. It’s one of the best decisions we ever made,” he said appreciatively.

The parley ended with a live demonstration and the symbolic mini-launch of the ILERA EKO Spotlight online radio, marking another innovative step by LASHMA toward achieving universal health coverage in Lagos State.

Lagos Is Rewriting Nigeria’s Malaria Story /2025/10/17/lagos-is-rewriting-nigerias-malaria-story/ /2025/10/17/lagos-is-rewriting-nigerias-malaria-story/#respond Thu, 16 Oct 2025 23:49:00 +0000 /?p=1135060

Malaria remains one of Nigeria’s most persistent public health challenges. TheWorld Malaria Report 2024paints a worrying picture — in 2023 alone, Nigeria recorded over 68 million clinical cases and 184,000 deaths, the highest malaria burden globally.

Yet, amid these sobering statistics, there is an inspiring story emerging from Lagos State. Over the past decade, Lagos has steadily driven down malaria prevalence among children under five to below 5%, compared to a national average of 22%. This makes Lagos one of Nigeria’s few states now classified as a low transmission area — placing it firmly on the path toward malaria elimination.

This progress is not accidental. It reflects years of focused leadership, effective partnerships, and consistent investments in public health. Under the guidance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Lagos is deliberately positioning itself for malaria pre-elimination — a critical phase where malaria becomes rare and accurate diagnosis and treatment are essential to sustain gains.

Through the Lagos State Malaria Impact Project, the state Ministry of Health is working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), the Society for Family Health (SFH), Maisha Meds, and the ANDI Centre of Excellence for Malaria Diagnosis at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Together, these partners are strengthening malaria surveillance, improving data quality, and promoting evidence-based case management.

However, even as malaria cases decline, a new challenge has emerged — overdiagnosis. In many health facilities, patients with fever are still being treated for malaria even when test results prove otherwise. This practice wastes valuable medicines, delays the correct diagnosis of other illnesses, and distorts official malaria data.

A recent study found that only 7per centof patients who presented with fever and were suspected to have malaria actually tested positive. Yet, many of those with negative results still received malaria treatment. Such practices can no longer be justified in a state on the verge of elimination.

To address this, Lagos State has introduced structured training, supervision, and provider-focused behaviour change communication. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory staff are being equipped to trust diagnostic results and manage cases appropriately. The Society for Family Health (SFH) and the ANDI Centre of Excellence are providing technical support to ensure that best practices are sustained across both public and private health facilities.

For malaria case management to be effective, every suspected case must first be confirmed using either microscopy or Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) — quick, reliable, and affordable tools that have revolutionized malaria testing worldwide. Treating patients without testing not only undermines these tools but also risks masking other serious conditions such as typhoid, dengue, or viral infections.

The public has an equally vital role to play. Lagosians must recognize that malaria is not as common as it once was. A fever does not automatically mean malaria. Every resident should request a test before treatment. By doing so, patients help themselves and contribute to a culture of accurate diagnosis and responsible healthcare.

When malaria tests return negative, health workers are being trained to explain results clearly and guide patients toward identifying the true cause of illness. This approach improves trust, ensures appropriate treatment, and prevents unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses.

The Lagos example proves that malaria elimination is achievable in Nigeria. The state’s journey shows what is possible when leadership, science, and community action align. The collaboration between government, academic institutions, and health development partners is transforming the malaria landscape — not through luck, but through deliberate policy and accountability.

Still, sustaining this progress requires vigilance. As malaria cases decline, complacency must not set in. Continued investment in surveillance, data quality, and community engagement will be crucial. Lagos must also continue to share lessons with other states so that Nigeria’s fight against malaria becomes a shared success story.

Malaria is both preventable and treatable. The difference lies in our collective discipline — from government to health workers to citizens. Lagos has shown that when data drives action and leadership stays committed, transformation is possible.

If Lagos maintains this course, it will not only achieve malaria pre-elimination but also lead Nigeria — and indeed Africa — into a future where malaria deaths are history.

Visibility and self assertion in Ranto Clothings Skimpy Collection /2025/10/15/visibility-and-self-assertion-in-ranto-clothings-skimpy-collection/ /2025/10/15/visibility-and-self-assertion-in-ranto-clothings-skimpy-collection/#respond Wed, 15 Oct 2025 07:18:00 +0000 /?p=1139849

Ranto Clothings is not pretending with this one.

The Skimpy Collection (Release Date: October 5th, 2025), under Creative Director Bright Urhobo, is not about romantic draping, corporate polish, or quiet luxury. It’s about skin, movement, club economy, and female self-styling in the age of “I dress for me.” It is extremely aware of where it lives culturally: Instagram nightlife, rooftop birthdays, “outside” culture. It is made for the camera first, the mirror second, and anyone’s opinion of appropriateness dead last.

Let’s go look by look.

The Animal Print Mini (Long-sleeve micro dress)

This is the clearest articulation of what Urhobo is doing with Skimpy.

We get a body conscious, long-sleeve, high-neck micro dress in an animal-inspired print, a brown/black mottled pattern that sits somewhere between leopard and abstract camouflage. The hem is unapologetically short. The sleeves are fitted all the way to the wrist. The neckline is closed. That balance is intentional: maximum leg and curve exposure, maximum torso outline, zero cleavage. You’ve seen this silhouette in nightlife dressing globally because it works and gives shape and presence while letting the wearer keep control over what’s actually visible.

This is “hot” from the POV of the wearer, not “sexy” for an audience.

Fabric-wise, we’re most likely looking at a stretch knit or stretch velvet/velour blend. It clings and holds, but it also has that plush, slightly light-catching quality that reads rich under artificial light (club lighting, flash photography, phone camera with beauty filter). That’s important because this collection is clearly built for being documented. The mottled print helps visually diffuse any texture at the stomach, hip, lower back, it’s doing quiet body-smoothing work without shapewear. That’s a real design decision, and it’s smart.

Fit notes: the dress is cut close through the torso, hip, and thigh, but it doesn’t look like it’s suffocating circulation. The ruching across the midsection isn’t extreme, but there’s just enough natural gathering to keep it forgiving. That matters in real life. We’re not in fantasy couture land. We’re in “I’m going to be eating, drinking, sitting, standing, dancing, taking pictures all night” land. You cannot have a dress that punishes you for existing.

This look is for the “soft but dangerous” archetype, the woman who is not hiding her body but is also not performing the cliché of overt chest-out desperation. It’s confident, yes, but it’s also comfortable. That’s the new kind of sexy.

The Cutout Satin Midi (Blue washed/smoky slip dress)

This is the unexpected piece in the drop, and honestly, it’s the most interesting from a trend-evolution standpoint.

We’re getting a midi-length slip silhouette in a blue, almost cloud-washed satin. The cut is soft A-line from the waist down, not tight, not mermaid, not pencil. That means movement. That means airflow. That means this can exist outside just the club space (date night, dinner, birthday shoot, destination trip). The dress hits that growing market for “grown but hot.”

Now, construction: the dress features aggressive side cutouts at the torso, full side exposure under the arm, coming in at the waist. This is a big 2024–2025 energy shift we’re seeing generally: women aren’t just baring cleavage or leg anymore; they’re baring ribcage, oblique, low back. It’s about sculpting the torso and showing “I lift / I take care of my body / I’m in ownership of it,” without relying on the traditional male-gaze areas.

Urhobo leans into that. The cutouts carve out the waist visually, exaggerating curve without the dress having to be vacuum-tight all the way down. That creates this hourglass illusion while still letting the skirt remain floaty. Functionally, that’s more comfortable. Psychologically, it’s more confident.

Fabric-wise, this is a satiny weave with softness and drape importantly, it is not ultra-gloss high-shine. It’s got a smoky, almost water-stained tonal variation that feels a little artful, a little dye-technique-adjacent. So while the body reveal is bold, the fabric palette is mature. No neon. No glitter. No rhinestone straps. That tension feels deliberate.

This is “grown sexy,” not “trying to go viral sexy.”

But as a direction? This is on-trend and relevant. It puts Ranto into the same conversation as global mid-tier “main character” brands that dominate birthday-dinner content.

The Two-Piece Set (Cropped top + ruched micro skirt in burgundy)

This one is pure “outside” culture. Let’s be honest.

We’ve got a sleeveless, high-neck crop top paired with an ultra-short, ruched mini skirt in a deep burgundy. The matching set format is culturally important. Sets communicate intention. A set says, “this is not random separates, this is a look.” It’s coded as an appearance, you wore this to be seen.

The crop top is cut clean across the chest, slightly extended at the shoulder line, almost like a muscle-tee silhouette refined for nightlife. That shoulder extension is not accidental. Broadening the shoulder line helps visually nip the waist, and it also gives a little athletic energy, “I’m strong” instead of “I’m delicate.”

The skirt: micro, fitted, with adjustable side ruching. That drawstring detail on one hip is doing two jobs. First, it lets the wearer choose how high she wants the skirt to sit, because not everyone wants it at the same micro length, and some bodies need more vertical space than others. Second, it gives vertical scrunching that softens lower belly and hip area. That’s body-conscious engineering through styling, not shapewear. It’s also very Y2K-coded, but in a 2025 way: less kitsch, more sculpt.

Fabric here looks like a stretch jersey/spandex blend with a slight sheen, not liquid latex shine, not athletic matte. That faint glow under light makes skin look warmer and smoother on camera. Again: made for photos.

Let’s talk honestly about what this look represents. This is not about the office. Not about the dinner with aunties. This is “I’m outside, I’m paying for my own drinks, I’m documenting the night, and I don’t care about modesty discourse.” This is independent female gaze dressing: “I like how I look in this. That is the full justification.” That mentality is shaping 2025 fashion more than any runway trend.

Now let’s zoom out. The Skimpy Collection is honest about what it is selling: visibility as self-authorship. We’ve been through a decade of two extremes, Overly “feminist” corporate wear that still demanded women perform control and respectability and Hyper-sexual fast fashion that framed exposure as desperation for the male gaze.

Skimpy sits in the new lane: body-forward clothing as personal normal, not performance. These outfits aren’t asking, “Will I offend anyone?” They’re asking, “Do I feel like myself in this?”

Trends moving into 2025 are not about minimalism anymore. They’re about selective boldness. Skin is not the message; control over when and how that skin is revealed is the message.

Urhobo understands that, especially for women with curves. He’s designing for women who do not see their bodies as a “problem to solve.” He’s designing for women who already live in their bodies comfortably, and just want clothes that match that energy.

That’s culturally on time.

Samsix Builds Momentum at Vybz Festival /2025/10/07/samsix-builds-momentum-at-vybz-festival/ /2025/10/07/samsix-builds-momentum-at-vybz-festival/#respond Tue, 07 Oct 2025 11:58:00 +0000 /?p=1131555

The Labor Day weekend wrapped up with a decisive statement on Afro-Caribbean culture as the Vybz Festival – All White & Flags Edition seized Karma Outdoors on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Against a backdrop of white attire and fluttering flags, Afrobeats artist Samsix delivered a defining performance that underlined his transition from rising name to international draw.

Samsix took the stage and immediately engaged the capacity crowd, meeting the intense energy of the Washington D.C. audience with his own controlled intensity. He kept the focus tight: dressed in a simple black t-shirt with bold inscriptions printed across the back, the artist let his presence and his music do the heavy lifting.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. When Samsix cued his single, “It’s Okay,” the venue floor turned into a synchronized, swaying mass. Fans, waving flags from Nigeria to Jamaica and beyond, sang along, confirming the track’s deep resonance with the diaspora audience. The unique set—a mix of infectious rhythms and sharp stage command, cemented Samsix’s position as a serious contender on the global scene.

Dancehall and the Night’s Pulse

The lineup was anchored by a crucial appearance from Jamaican heavyweight Armanii. The major Dancehall artist offered a powerful shift in sonic landscape, delivering his signature tracks with a commanding, authentic sound that thrilled his devoted followers.

The flow between these two genres was masterfully handled by DJ Ricky Platinum, the official selector. His mixing was relentless, ensuring the floor remained in constant motion and serving as the unwavering pulse of the entire night.

The Vybz Festival proved to be more than just a concert; it was an affirmation. The event established that in Washington D.C., the demand for both African and Caribbean sounds is not a trend, but a dominant cultural force, driven by artists like Samsix whose international momentum is clearly accelerating.

Ny Nana Outlines Role as DGN Treasurer /2025/10/07/ny-nana-outlines-role-as-dgn-treasurer/ /2025/10/07/ny-nana-outlines-role-as-dgn-treasurer/#respond Tue, 07 Oct 2025 11:57:00 +0000 /?p=1131552

Movie director and Treasurer of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Lagos Chapter, Oghenenyerhovwo Nana, popularly known as Ny Nana, has outlined her responsibilities in strengthening financial accountability and championing the welfare of Nollywood directors.

Speaking on how she balances her creative and administrative roles, she explained: “For me, it’s about discipline and perspective. As filmmakers, our creativity drives us, but as Treasurer, I recognize that sustainability in our industry comes from financial accountability. I approach Guild finances with the same attention to detail I bring to storytelling — every number must serve a purpose, just as every scene must serve the story. I balance both roles by separating passion from process; while I create from instinct, I manage resources with structure, transparency, and foresight.”

Ny Nana also addressed the pressing financial and structural challenges confronting Nollywood.

“One of the biggest challenges is inadequate funding and the lack of structured distribution channels that guarantee fair returns for directors. Many rely on self-financing or informal partnerships, which limits creative freedom and growth. Structurally, piracy and the absence of standardized contracts weaken our bargaining power. The Guild is working to create stronger collective agreements, build partnerships with streaming platforms, and push for policies that protect intellectual property,” she noted.

She further emphasized the evolving role of the Guild in protecting directors’ rights. “Visibility is no longer enough. Directors need to be recognized as the backbone of the industry and compensated accordingly. The DGN is evolving into not just a community but a bargaining force — one that advocates for fair wages, royalties, and credit recognition both locally and internationally. In the future, I see us moving toward stronger legal protections and professional standards that place directors at the center of negotiations.”

Through her work in the Guild and as a filmmaker, Ny Nana continues to merge creativity with advocacy, reinforcing the role of directors as central to Nollywood’s growth and sustainability.
