In reply to Catalyst . Every succeeding decade has been worse than the previous since they took over, military and civilian regimes alike. Hold them, at the minimum, to the same standard they inherited and they question your patriotism. Tell them to return to the structure that benefited everyone and will benefit every state or zone now, and they accuse you of trying to disintegrate the nation. Imagine what they would have been claiming they could have done if they were the ones kept out of power. Almost 59 years of maximum power and domination, and the best the victorious groups (individually and collectively) can do is make Nigeria the poverty capital of the world - the same Nigeria that once bailed out the UAE financially. That is some leadership.

For the past 5 years Morocco has been hosting Africa: Boys U-17 and U-20; Girls U-17 and U-20; WAFCON; Women Champions League; AAF Athletics meets , After this AFCON, it'll host the next WAFCON, that is two within three years. And the big one is being part of the Intercontinental World Cup 2030. Can you beat that??

In reply to the masked one. Regarding the ongoing AFCON in Morocco, look at the impressive infrastructure that Morocco has. Look at the organization, and especially consider the fact that a lot of matches are played after hours, evidence of reliable power supply. It was the same with Cote d'Ivoire not long ago. Can Nigeria come close to what the world saw in Cote d'Ivoire and are seeing in Morocco? Yet, we have government officials witnessing and enjoying these well organized tournaments. Would it kill them to emulate positive things? Give them the same opportunity and they will budget more than the referenced nations but embezzle most of it. There was power outage the last time Nigeria hosted mere U-17 World Cup, and some of the awarded medals were stolen! Why can't our journalists talk about some of these shameful and embarrassing disparities and demand accountability? Must they always defend and excuse incompetence?

I think emilokan presidency have exposed the decades of failures and fake patriotism of the coalitions that defeated biafrans during the civil war. While the northern block of coalition lead by caliphate once praised itself as natural leader of post war Nigeria during the free meals and dollars from south South crude oil, the later block from south west spearheaded by followers of Awolowo ideology ( the author of tribalism) fancies themselves as leaders of economy. For now, there's complete leadership collapse in Nigeria, instead of introspection from those that brought about the ruin, they continues a blame game.

The major lesson in all of these is that the security of any government lies with the goodwill of its people. Any government that is out of tune with the needs and desires of its people can never have security. The disillusionment of citizens always provides the crevice for foreign forces to come in. This is what happened to the former Soviet Union, Iraq, Libya, Syria, many of the fragile regimes we have had in Africa and now Venezuela. The same fate is likely to befall Iran and – believe me – China and Putin in future. The Trump Administration appears to be derailing but the good thing with the USA is that they have an inbuilt mechanism for self-correction. This is what many of these other dictatorships don’t have.
Don’t ask me about Nigeria because it appears the country is on a highway to where I cannot imagine. The only guarantee for Nigeria’s security is for the current administration to dial back from the numerous own goals it is scoring. Instead of looking for scapegoats for its mishandling of current security and economic challenges, it should acknowledge the many mistakes that have been made and take corrective actions immediately. Empty appeals to patriotism, fear-mongering, and finger pointing may not help. With the current situation, it may be difficult for anybody to put his life on the line in defence of the country when foreign enemies come. I close this comment with a quote from Psalms 33:16-17 “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength”.
