Regarding Detty December. Lagos has always been a party city. In the 1980s and 1990s there was "Lekki Sunsplash" in Lagos every December. And even before that, the end of year period, in Lagos, was always a festive period. So, describing the entire month of December as "detty December" is not the way to go. Even if Lagos wants to use it as a tourist magnet because detty December may be a fad that fades.

Clearly, Gen-Z , diaspora Nigerians, etc, have discovered December's night life. Especially in Lagos. So detty December should rightfully be added as one of the festivities that are celebrated in December, amongst others:

1. Christmas (the birthday of our Lord and Savior ) 25th December to 1st January;
2. Kwanza (an African American Cultural Celebration) 26th December to 1st January;
3. Hanukkah (an eight-day Jewish festival of lights celebrating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem) 14th December to 22nd December;
4. End of year festivities (20th December to 2nd January); and
5,. Detty December (a month of partying and merriment) December 1st to December 31st

The 2025 Ofala festivities was also a cause of concern. Yes, Globacom generously sponsored the event. But the Globacom marketing team were too heavy handed. Their sign boards were everywhere.
