Policing needs restructuring to reflect the needs of society. The Nigerian police must learn from countries with the best policing systems like the UK where officers walk around the neighbourhood to maintain peace. It’s so sad that Nigerian police officers don’t even know there is what you call neighbourhood policing. The closest they have got to that is through the checkpoints they install within every 50 meters along the highway .
But they can do better than that.
Policemen obviously travel to England. Maybe they are expecting King Charles to deploy his Royal police officers to Nigeria for them.
It will never happen .
Send police officers to areas they have familiarity and they will be willing to do the best for their own indigenous people anytime of the day.

The solution to this problem is not far fetched.

Since VIPs, in Nigeria, have an insatiable appetite for police protection, and the FGN has a duty to protect all Nigerians including VIPs. The FGN can kill two birds with one stone by charging VIPs a significant amount for the police officers that are assigned to them. As an example, if a police sergeant makes ₦100,000.00 a month, the FGN should charge the VIP that the sergeant is assigned to ₦200,000.00 a month. And use the extra ₦100,000.00 to hire one additional police officer to provide security for the masses
