Roundabout waffle.
Where in Nigerarea was any kind of accord reached with non state actors without force or bribery?
Don’t be naive.

Negotiation is not equal to cash payment . It’s only Nigerian politicians that created this equality , and it was for their own selfish ends – who audits payments made to bandits or militants ? Shine your eyes …..

Please read my response to Lanel below .

Neither will suggest payment of ‘ amnesty money’ , nor will i advocate if I am to be a member of any Negotiating Team. I actually do not support the current payment to so called ex militants in the Niger Delta. – 99% of them were never militants. There are better sustainable ways to deal with the poverty and unemployment pandemic that lured the ignorant youths to join bandit camps across the north.

The main thrust of negotiating with the bandits and similar IPOB meascrants is to end the killings. I suppose the first step here is to engage them more to know what aggrieves them so much to result to the killing spree , and deal with this issue first . Most bandits claim certain injustice against them such as rustling of their cattle , hostilities by farmers and land grabbing. In the case of IPOB it is separatism and Nnamdi Kanu . Government can deal with these and do trade-offs with the leaders while empowering the boys by creating social safety nets and employment opportunities .

Negotiations = Cash payments.
Don’t sugarcoat it. Ergo, more wastage of your patrimony.
Petrodollar being inexhaustible and not an ungoing concern, aye?

this has always been one of the reasons for not dealing with the idiots….. you want amnesty money paid to northern youths .
it will not work.they have not kept any aggrement they have made and will not stop if they are given amnesty money.

I thought i was plain enough. We need to ‘ stop the bleed’ immediately. Rural folks are being killed daily needlessly !

By now it should be clear to all that the security agencies do not have the right capabilities to deal with the attacks and reduce the threats to lives and properties . This is even after the substantial increase in funding to the security sector . So there is need for a shift in approach to security management – organisation and operations . Understandably this is will take time .

The immediate step and interim measure is to negotiate for respite and peace in the meantime. This is even more expedient since the bandits are known and they claim they have grievances too . Each rural area or LGA can individually negotiate with these people since they are part of their communities.

Recall that Yar Adua entered negotiations with militants to achieve calm in the Niger Delta . Same approach can still work for bandits in the north if properly handled . States in the SE can also adopt negotiations with IPOB to end the madness in Igboland too.

Yet, the FG does not and cannot declare a state of emergency in states taken over and made ungovernable by bandits. Instead, it finds partisan excuses to take over governance of a relatively safe and secure state in the south-south.

2. it took 5 south african mercenaries and nigerians they trained 6 weeks to clear borno state. it cost jonathan less than 100 million dollars.
3.there is an underlying fulani vs hausa war going on. that is the reason buhari did not care and the emirs are paying lip service to the scourge.
4.the fulani took hausa lands and kingship , yet they are still killing them 200yrs after. this is a lesson for those who think that if the fulanis are given lands in the south that the killing will stop.
5. it is amazing that nigeria security becomes efficient when the igbos are the ones being dealth with but with the north it is begging of bandits

Former President Buhari once celebrated the end of Boko Haram. We should have consulted him to ask which terrorists was he talking about ? It appears as if they keep on resurfacing. This seems to confirm the suspicion that the sponsors of these terrorists work on government . Now we have to find out which government. State government or federal government. If there is anything to suggest that they are still in the federal government then President Tinubu should flush them out asap!

Obviously the structure and mechanism to guarantee the security of many small and dispersed communities of the north does not currently exist . Apparently the security architecture of the country was not designed (that is if there was any blueprint in the first place) to manage the kinds of security challenges we witness today. And the security architecture has not benefited from any major professional rework to refocus it to handle the new security threats currently ravaging the country. So basically, there is little or northing for rural folks to rely on while those in urban areas though a bit fortunate have not much too working for them . Security of lives and properties in Nigeria today is largely due to the best efforts of the individuals and support provided by state when available and within reach. As things stand today, any deal local communities in the banditry ravaged north can extract from their tormentors to ensure safety and security of their lives and properties is surely a fair deal considering the circumstances.

Negotiations with the bandits is the obvious choice left to the rural folks. This is especially so now that it is acknowledged that the bandits are actually indigenous and are known to the communities.

The immediate step to halt the terror and killings must necessarily be to "stop the bleed " by getting the bandits to commit to ceasefire and a peace deal. I suppose this step will save lives .

Subsequent steps and measures can then be developed to ensure lasting peace. But it is important we stop further killings first, immediately.

Sometimes we have to stoop low enough to conquer !
