Crude oil selling at $78.50 per barrel should be cheering news for many oil producing countries. But for Nigeria, if today is like yesteryears, and there's zero evidence to show that it isn't, it's quite doubtful that there would be any cause for cheers. Even if the barrel price rises to $200, the huge bonanza will still go the way of its predecessors since the 1970s – right into the sinkhole of bottomless graft and fantastic corruption. This is the sad reality of Nigeria. However, as a people of infinite hope and prayer, we can crave the miracle of God's intervention such that for this once in the annals of our history, we take a different turn in the fork of the road in the right direction – of transparency, accountability, elite responsibility, prudence and probity – so help us God.
