It’s Officially Rema鈥檚 Year on Spotify聽
Rema has had an extraordinary rise to fame on the global music streaming platform Spotify this year. The 鈥楥alm Down鈥 crooner
claimed a top spot on Spotify鈥檚 Wrapped, an annual list which recaps listeners鈥 musical journey, as the most globally exported artist in Nigeria.
This year sees the artist scoring a streak of firsts including being the first African artist to achieve one billion streams with his collaboration with American pop star Selena Gomez on the hit single 鈥楥alm Down.鈥 The song is also the first by a Nigerian Afrobeats artist to feature on the top 10 chart of most streamed recordings globally on Spotify and tops the Nigerian song export chart. The artist further topped the most searched queries. These achievements solidified Rema鈥檚 position as afrobeats global ambassador.
Equally making a bold statement on the platform is Asake, as he was announced as the most streamed Nigerian artist in Nigeria, Ghana and Togo. Three of his hits: 鈥楲onely At The Top,鈥 鈥2:30鈥 and 鈥楢mapiano鈥 were featured in the Top 10 most streamed tracks.
First-time Grammy nominee Ayra Starr has a good run on Spotify as she dominated the most streamed female artist in Nigeria, beating Tiwa Savage and Tems who occupied the second and third position respectively on the list.
Davido鈥檚 鈥楾imeless鈥 album was the most streamed album in Nigeria followed by Asake鈥檚 Work of Art.鈥 Burna Boy鈥檚 鈥楲ove Damini鈥 also made the cut, sitting at No. 9.
Spotify Wrapped data also indicated the listening habits of Nigeria, showing that the demand for local music in Nigeria continued to skyrocket, with consumption growing by an impressive 284%, and average streams of female artists in Nigeria experienced a remarkable 150% surge Year-on-Year.
